Door Opening!

I am ROLLING on the ground laughing hysterically at all these posts! My Ophie does all of these! And I thought my dog was the only spoiled, human-like, spaz in the world! Guess not!

BUT . . . do any of your babies do this? My Ophie will OPEN doors. She will jump up, paw the handle and PULL the door open. One time, she UNBOLTED and opened the front door! We had to change the handle so she couldn't do it! She will not allow any closed doors in the house. If someone wants privacy in the bedroom, and she's in the living room, the minute you close the door she's like "No, mom, I don't THINK so." She opens the door, and doesn't even want to be in the room. She'll just open it and walk out again. You try to close it? She'll open it again. Same goes for the bathroom.

LOL, any of you experience this????

Oh what a clever puppy! We have round door knobs, so that's a big ask considering dogs don't have thumbs. I have to say, it took a while for Jasper to open the sliding door. The cat had to show him how!

My late, boy Zack not only opened doors but also on occasion would answer the phone. He would romove it from its cradle and WOOF real loud down the reciever!!! It was very funny, especially the time he did it to a police man !:eek:

Zacks Dad, Knight, would open the back door all the time and if we locked it, look out! He would stand at the gate barking till we went to investigate, then he would dash inside behind our backs! Smart Huh??

We had the same problem in our old house. We've pretty much eliminated the problem with different nobs in our new house. Lexi and Garrett actually got to roam the neighborhood one day while I was at work after she carefully unlocked the deadbolt on our front door :mad: Of course she didn't bother to shut the door behind them!! *sigh* sometimes you have to try to out smart them.

Aimee, Tell the story where they got the back door opened when you were out and they helped themselves to going in and out of the back yard all day and what you came home to.

Scarlet locked the dead bolt one time when I went out to get the mail. I dont know why but I just happened to bring my house keys with me so was able to get back in.

Boomer opens the back door for himself if we leave him outside longer than he thinks he needs to be out there. He also opens my youngest son's bedroom so he can steal a stuffed animal or two.

Ahhhh yes......The infamous door opening.

Oscar (aka I-Scare) has been opening doors since he was big enough to reach them. He has now learned to fine art of not only opening doors that push inward but he can also now PULL OPEN the doors. Steve and I haven't changed the door knob but we having installed locks on the bedroom door and a better lock on the bathroom door. Our guests have appreciated the latter........with the old bathroom door even if it was locked, Oscar would give it a loud, quick Fonzie rap and the door would fly open on the unsuspecting occupant :eek: Thankfully, they were sitting in the right place when this happened.

Now let's talk about rolling the car windows up and down, up and down, up and down............. OR opening the pantry door and helping one's self to a few tasty morsels when the mood strikes...... :rolleyes:

Last year we spent the day at the Baltimore Aquarium. It made for a long day for the pooches to be home alone. They were gated in our kitchen with plenty to do to keep them busy. I of course worried about them all day. Come to find out they were having the time of their lives while we were away. Driving up to the house we noticed the back door was wide open. Again, not even thinking Lexi was at it again, I immediately thought we'd been robbed or my babes had been stolen. We race into the house only to be greeted with wagging tails..what a relief. Until we notice the kitchen...our white floor was nowhere to be seen. Muddy footprints covered the entire kitchen floor. Lexi had drug out the water bowl, down the deck stairs out into the backyard. This of course made mud in our back yard of little grass and much dirt and the two of them created a trail from the yard, up the deck stairs and around the kitchen. It must of taken them all day to cover this kind of ground. I have never owned another breed of dog that behaved this way :rolleyes:

Marley hasent learned to let him self out but he sure knows how to let himself in!!!!. He started letting himself into the house (I put him out while Im cleaning the house otherwise the cleaning appliance become his prey) when he was about 6 months old. Since then I have started locking the front door while hes out there. Fortunately I havent given him a key to the house and he hasnt called a locksmith to remedy the problem.

The previous owners of our house had two small children so the locks were removed from the handles on interior doors and hook and eye locks were put in at the tops of those doors instead.

With the lockless handles, Riley has no problem opening the bathroom doors. I haven't been able to get into the habit of locking the hook and eye when I go in there, and I've gotten pretty used to his barging in. Privacy has been sacrificed willingly for the love of this wonderful creature!

He can also open the screen doors to the front and backyard, but we've gotten in the habit of latching those at the top for safety reasons.
