Dog sleeping on Bed

I know this is going to sound off, but both my dogs sleep with me and my husband usually doesn't. I'm more of a night person by nature so I go to bed around 1am. My husband who is retired army goes to bed around 9-10pm and gets up about 5:30am. Plus he snores and moves much more than the dogs ever have! Actually it started when he would travel and while he was gone I would let our first girl up because I couldn't sleep alone. His trips got more frequent and we got more dogs. All that being said, should my husband sleep with me the dogs are not on the bed. This has not seemed to effect their behavior in any noticeable way.

We have big comfy beds for our girls in our room which they go on when I'm ready to go to sleep, happy to have them sit up there with me to watch a bit of telly or read but I hate battling them for space on the bed when I'm trying to sleep because I usually lose!

Thanks very much for the good advise. I think we will train him to come up only when invited, that sounds like the best approach. That way, we keep some control. Thanks again, your advise was very helpful and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one sucked in my that boxer face come bedtime. I woke up this morning, with a 25 lb. boxer bundle on my pillow, smushed in as close to me as possible. He's sure does love to snuggle. It's hard to resist.

Both of ours have slept in the bed from day 1...They each have their favorite spot...I think I would miss them if they didn't...the colder it gets the closer they get...Laila likes to sleep with her head h the pillow!

Ha, Ha! sounds familiar. My husband and I rarely sleep in the same bed, he too travels for work A LOT and when he is not home, I just got used to sleeping alone, and now I just sleep better alone. I let my other two dogs jump up on the bed, but they never want to sleep with me all night. They come up for a cuddle and then go to their dog beds, because they were brought up that way. Rupert, the new little boxer, likes to STAY. When I wake up, he is curled up under my chin, in a little boxer ball. I really enjoy the company..yes he snores, but I don't care. My husband keeps warning me, that the dog will never sleep in his bed, and I guess he is right. But I think Rupet is with me to stay.

hahaha! I have to agree, we graduated from a queen to a king when Hurricane started sleeping with us, because all three of us couldn't fit on the queen! We didn't let him sleep in the bed with us at night until we were confident in his housetraining, though. He would wake up and night and have to go, but he didn't understand how to wake us up and let us know, and until he learned to whine to get us up he slept in his crate. Ever since then, though, he sleeps with us. Well, with me. He and I share half the bed and DH has the other half!

My guys have slept with me since day one and they are both snugglers. They HAVE to be touching me and they usually both have their heads propped up somewhere on my body (sometimes it's a leg, other times, it's my stomach). I often get quite warm in the night with two boxers practically laying on top of me, so I'll sneak into the spare bedroom and the dogs ALWAYS follow me. It may take a half hour or so, but I'm never alone in the bed for long regardless of which bed I'm trying to crash on The best is when you're greeting with the nub wiggle laying beside you first thing in the morning. My guys' nubs spring into action the moment I open my eyes.

As long as you don't have a problem sharing your bed with the dog, I don't see a problem with allowing your dog on the bed.

Both of our dogs sleep in our bed... Most nights it's fine, but sometimes they end up sleeping in your legs, and it can be miserable.... and moving sleeping dogs is like moving dead weight .

Our boxer goes on stretches where he will get up and go sleep on the bed in our spare room for several nights in a row.. maybe he gets tired of sleeping with us

We finally bought a king size bed so we could all fit and not be on top of each other.

Im kind of just jumping in here.. I read a few of the responses...

The only issue I can see with this is your dog jumping up on the couch as well. The dog may associate being in the bed with you like being on the couch with you. If you dont mind the dog doing that then everything is fine. But when you have company over? Or when you bring your dog to other peoples homes? If you can impliment training that your dog must get down when commanded, and he/she listens, then thats all you.

I had a German Shepherd puppy that we let sleep with us, but keep in mind puppies get bigger. I dont know the potential size your Boxer will get, but like everyone else has been saying, might need a larger bed. Lol.
