I agree...there's nothing wrong with your pup sleeping with you. I initially had my Buster when I first got him in his crate at night and after a month or so moved him to my bed to sleep at night. It was great and I liked it and he was so sweet, but he did become territorial over the bed (or maybe it was me) and acted as if it was "his" bed, to the point of not allowing my kids to get on the bed with me if I were sitting there. If they did manage to get on the bed and try to sit next to me, he would squeeze himself in between us. What was the final straw was after he had peed on my bed (while still sleeping...apparently) several times. That was it. After that I stopped him from sleeping on my bed unless I invited him, but he usually won't get up on my bed now if I'm there. It's only when we're gone that he makes himself comfortable there (and I don't mind that). He also has a fondness for my 18 year old son's bed (also, when he's not there). At this point, I wish he wouldn't act so afraid to get up now when I'm there. There are some nights, I'd actually prefer him sleeping there with me. Good luck in whatever direction you choose.

Did you decide to keep letting him sleep with you? Both of mine sleep with me. Well, sort of.

Dodger has to be laying with his head on my shoulder and one leg thrown over me all cuddled up and what not.

Marlee will go under the covers for about an hour then she gets under the bed. Haha. No idea why.

But neither one of mine are at ALL territorial about the bed. They will let others sleep in it no problem. With the understanding that they are sleeping there, too. :D

Yes, Rupert does still sleep with us...he is about 40 lbs. now, and when the lights go out in the living room, he heads for our bedroom..and snuggles in for the night. When my husband is home, there are three of us..if it gets to warm or Rupert is particulary wiggley that night, I vacate to the spare bedroom..and Rupert gets my spot. My husband is now madly in love with Rupert and would not have him sleep anywhere else. They cuddle. It's the cutest thing.

We let Mojo sleep with us, too, and after reading this thread, I'm realizing that he IS becoming territorial, with my husband. I usually go to bed first, and he jumps in and dive-bombs under the covers, curling up under there usually laying on top of me, lol. But, when my husband comes to bed, Mojo gets up and starts growling and play-lunging at my husband. I thought it was ALL just play, but I'm starting to realize it may not be...I had no idea that boxers would become territorial over a bed! We're going to have to start training Mojo only to come up when invited, now, I think.

Anyone have any ideas on how to re-train him to only jump up when invited?

There is nothing wrong with the dog sleeping in the bed as long as you understand that the bed becomes their bed too. I have found that as long as you stay consistant then they will respect your wishes.

Our dog usually sleeps on his bed beside us on the floor to start the night. He will try and sneak up in the middle of the night sometimes but if we say "bed' he knows he has to get off and sleep on his own bed. If we don't say anything then Jacko will curl up next to us. I noticed that when Jacko does come up on our bed, he wants to sneak under the blankets and sleep at our feet, it gets cold at night with out other body heat.

My two sleep in bed with me also. Well, they sleep on top of me. :) I just loved reading all of these posts in this thread and seeing all the similarities these sweet little nubbers share! I can just picture them all snuggled up with their people just like mine do with me. Love it!
