Did you guys hear that the judge overturned the ruling on the case CA where a dog had mauled a lady to death?

What do you think about this? The couple had trained these dogs to attack. The dogs had attacked before. The lady that was killed was taking her groceries to her apartment. The lady who owned the dogs was there when this happened. The jury found the lady guilty of murder. The judge overturned the ruling and there maybe a new trail for manslaughter 2 where the max sentence is 4 yrs in prison with more than likely only 1 yr served.

Is it not the couples responsiblity to control thier dogs? If you train a dog to attack should you not first train a dog to follow ALL commands- like stop, down, off, leave it.....

Since this couple trained the dogs to attack I feel they are completely responsible for this lady's death. A dog will only do what you teach it. I also wonder why these particaular dogs where outside off leash. Lucy is timid and will bark and growl at people, which really scares most, so I never take her outside off leash, unless she is in a fence ;)

I really haven't been following the case to much. However, I do feel that people need to be held responsible for their dogs behavior. I sure wish that people would educate themselves on breed behaviors, training, handling, etc. From what I understand the judge did this out of the blue without consulting anyone - makes me wonder if there is any sneeky stuff going on.

There was also proof (although it was not allowed in court) that the owners of the dogs had used the dogs in sex acts *YUCK*
From the testimony during the trial it seems that not only was the wife there when it happened but she did not try to stop the dogs

I think they are totally and completely responsible for the attack and they should spend life in prison. That's not to say that every dog owner is responsible for every attack, but if you have dogs that are trained to attack you should be taking precautionary measures with those dogs.

Believe me, I'd like to see them in jail forever too, but even if they only get one year, can you imagine how bad it would suck to be in jail for a whole year?

At least they get some kind of punishment, it could have been a fine or a warning.

I have been watching and following this case.....

Here are a few clarifications....

The dogs were not outside, they attacked the woman in the hallway of their apartment complex, the poor woman had her keys in her door...

These dogs were "Attack Dogs" in every sense of the word....

The victim had contacted the police about the dogs before, everytime she came in or out of her apartment the dogs would bark at her from their apartment.

I beleive that these dogs were the equivalent to owning a loaded gun....Unfortunatley the victim and the dogs paid the price for these owners ignorance and stupidity!! I believe that much clearer tougher laws should exsist in dealing with irresponsible pet owners and animal cruelty.

If you really want to hear some heated debate on this subject there is a website for Presa Canario's much like ours....I have dropped in and "listened" to them debate over this subject.

I wouldn't say one year of jail time is at all adequate for the way that lady died. they deserve more time than that.

I didn't say one year was adequate, I said it would suck and it's better than a slap on the wrist. I agree, they should be there for life.

Heck, mu husband got worse for a bounced check. He jokingly, said he would've gotten a less fine for murder. It's sad how they can get away so easily.

I watched the part where the family members were confronting the judge about the overruling. And when the one sister said she will never think the same about "man's best friend" again, I looked down at my sleeping Mabel and felt so sad for that woman. She and her family will never be able to experience the joy of having a dog again all because of the selfishness of that couple.:(

I firmly believe that woman is 100% responsible for the way her dog behaved. I was glad to hear that she was found guilty of 2nd degree murder (I believe that was one of the charges) a few months back when the case was in court, and I am saddened to hear that the ruling has been overturned. What good does it do now a days to even go to court when you can go immediately afterwards and find a judge that will overturn the previous Judges decision? Lets remember though, folks, not to blame the dog. Every owner is responsible for teaching their pet how to behave, and I think it is quite easy for humans to foget that, although the dog is a domesticated animal, it is still strongly rooted and driven by its primevil instincts, which ultimately, are "kill or be killed." Its our job as humans to make sure that they dont HAVE to be like that.
