So i switched Lucky's food and now she has the runs and can't hold 'em even when in her crate? is this normal for the first couple days? (switched on saturday) or is the food just no good? (blue buffalo) she was on canidea but i have to drive 50 mins to get it and thought i'd try something i could get a little easier. If i have to go back to the other food its worth the drive to get her back to normal. please tell me if this food is not up to standards i won't be offended (www.bluebuff.com) or maybe its not her food at all and she is just sick??? help

Did you switch the food over slowly?

You are supposed to slowly add the new food in with the old food for at least 7 days, increasing the new food slightly each day. If you just switched over quickly, that could be the problem.

I was wondering too if you switched slowly. Both times we have switched Coco's food we added like 2/3 or her regular to 1/3 of the new to begin with and slightly added more of the new until that was all she was eating. No trouble here either time.

Back when I had Daphanie (cocker), I did the same thing without knowing the consiquence. Let me tell you...she had the runs for almost 2 weeks. I learned never to do that again. Now when I have to switch food I do it over about 1 to 2 weeks at 1/4 increments for a few days. Like 1/4 new to 3/4 old for 3 days, 1/2 old to 1/2 new for 3 days and so on. It works out much better and doesn't mess up their digestive system.

It might be the food. I too tried to use Blue Buffalo and it did the same thing, and I switched it slowly, over a 2 week period of time and they just could not tolerate the food.

I too have a problem finding Canidae and paying the shipping so I am going to try Wellness, the feed store lady says it's extended her scottish terriers live by several years, or Chikcen Soup, as both of these are available locally. She said it is just too expensive to bring in the Canidae as they require her to have a whole trailer load and she cannot sell that much or make money to justify the expense.
