I'm so jealous! Nedra won't go out past her shoulders!

She will wade out just far enough then come running back, and only when there is a stick involved. I have tried to teach her to no avail.

Hopefully one day she'll get it.

Diva loves the beach - it's her favourite place (probably 'cause that's the only place she's allowed to dig to her hearts content!).

She will go in and swim after a tennis ball. In fact she does it until she throws up after gulping great gobs of seawater. If there are waves she loves to jump over them and has now got her timing to perfection - it it absolutely magic to watch. On occasion she has attracted quite audience doing this and of course she just loves all the attention!

During summer we go to the beach at least four times a week - usually one close by to the city, but on weekends I'll drive up the coast from where I live for an hour where there are great expanses of beach where she just runs and runs and runs ......................... lol

Brutus got his first swim lesson about 1 year ago..Last summer we took him on the boat to see how he would be on the lake. He behaved well but when he was tossed overboard to play with us in the water, He sank like a Rock!!! My boyfriend grabbed him and had to hold him til Brutus figured it out...At first He just paddled with his front paws( what a sight!!) Then he figured out that using all fours was the best thing.. He was Mr. Thang then!!

Let's Swim

Quinner (my boxerangelicon ) loves to swim and it is so funny to watch, especially when she gets water in her nose and blows so hard. Her and her brother Rocky (our English Setter) are a one of a kind pair, they love to go swimming in any pond they come across.

Melissa -
I love my babies, and miss them since Im at college and for this year Quinn had to stay at home. :(

Olli loves to run into the water and splash around or even stick his head underwater for things, but he has never went out deep enough to be able to swim. My husband and I usually don't go swimming, but we fish. So maybe if we would get in the water with Olli he might swim a bit. I would love for him to have fun swimming when we take him to lakes in the spring/summer time. Maybe this coming summer we will try to get him to swim.

Not quite sure if Jake likes to swim. Last summer we were on the pontoon boat hanging out off a sand bar and heard a big splash. I looked over and saw him sinking to the bottom but he figured out the doggie paddle quick. He paddled right over to me and grabbed on. (lots of scratches) He'll go into the water now but not always full in.

This reminds me of a funny story.....

My folks male boxer, Rocky, took to water as a puppy and loves it. Our female, Rudy, however, used to only go in to her shoulders.

One day last summer, while I was home walking them (we have a house near a small lake), Rudy saw some ducks in the water. She LOVES to chase ducks and so charged after them, barking a mile a minute. Well, this must have been a female duck, cause she kept toying Rudy. She would fly away a bit, and Rudy would swim after her, and then she would fly away to somewhere else, and repeat, and repeat, and repeat.....all this time, Rudy is swimming like mad and the duck is making a ton of noise!

Finally after about 10 minutes I was able to get Rudy out of the water and she just about passed out from ehaustion. :) She'll go into the water a little more willing now.

Where was Rocky, the water lover, during all this, you may ask? Just standing next to me staring at the scene, going like "Hey idiot! You're never going to get that duck!" :)

duck chasing should be a dog competitiion

My Rigo thinks swimming is o.k., but he is close to ninety pounds and it is a lot of work for him.

But ..... one day we went walking near this pond and there was one duck in it. I had no idea he would have any interest in it but when the duck got closer to us, he thought he had a chance and off he went.

Now Rigo is a big spoiled baby and had only been in the water with me and there was no way I was getting in that muddy pond. So he is paddling behind this duck who is much too smart for him. She let him get about a foot from him and just teased him to the middle of the lake. When he got there, he turned around to see where I was, just knowing I would be right behind him. He looked around as if to say "Uh Oh, I'm on my own." I don't think he knew what to do ... he was already tired.

I really thought he wasn't going to get back to the shore. I really didn't need a swim then, but I waded out and encouraged him to me. He made it without drowning . . how? -- I have no idea.

Luckily, there are no more ducks in that pond and he hasn't tried to swim there again....... But he still goes to look for his little tease.

At last check, Hammer sank like a stone!!

We have a pool so we hope he'll be able too some day, at least so he can get out OK should he ever fall in. For now, we just don't leave him out unsupervised.
