:D No CC, I didn't teach Joey to swim......it took a while of going to the dog park and as he played with other dogs, I guess he decided that they were having far too much fun in the water without him, and he started swimming.........

Th first time I let Soda attampt swimming she was with another dog. Kind of like an instructor. It was so funny because we were at a small dam at our horse paddock and the other dog was in and swimming across the dam with ease. Soda gained the courage to do the same and she had the worst freestyle that I have ever seen. I thought dogs did doggie paddle. Well she made it across the dam, Just. She has since imporved on her style and has slipped into doggie paddle. She loves the water and lucky for her, we are just about into Summer here.

Nope, he just started doing it, he acted like he did not know how to at first and then went into a doggie paddle that had a lot of water spashing to it. It was not perfect for several weeks, but we saw inprovement each time he tried. Now he jumps right in!

Boomer doesn't swim, but of course, he hasn't really been given the chance to check it out. For the folks who live in central Texas, perhaps you remember Ralph the Swimming Pig at Aquarena Springs in San Marcos, Texas? Well, I'm hopeful that one day Boomer becomes "The Buoyant Boxer".

Cheers,

I said yes . . .

But it is really two out of three. I am hopeful though that next summer the rescue girl will join the others in the water. Now she is content to run up and down the banks of the lake and bark at the other two and the birds. (Her feet are smaller and more delicate which may be some of the reason.)

Rigo had to be coerced into the deep water by mom. Glenn had to stand shallow and I had to call for him from the deep. It worked. Nala, however, is a natural born fish. She will even go under for her toys. Next summer, we will experiment more. We are both great swimmers and love the water. It would be a shame to have dogs that didn't. So far they all love the outing to the lake whether they get in the water or not!

I love my aquarian dogs!!!

I am not a very good swimmer, Cooper may have to save me if I ever get into trouble!
We are surrounded by rivers and have four lakes within an hour drive in different directions! Yeah! I go to fish, gotta love those bass, and even bought my three year old a pole this year she can cast as good as me!
Do you all take your dogs to rivers, lakes, or there other places where you live? Just wondering, I fish about every weekend when the weather is warm. Hubby does not like the
cold smashicon

Angel's folks

Boxer Pal
angelicon Our Angel does like the water somewhat if we're in it with her. It takes a lot of coaxing to get her to go in past her belly. If she does get in so far, it is a riot to watch her...her head above water and her front paws going frantically! We keep close in case she panics. She will run around in it quite freely chasing things and other dogs, but I would hesitate to say that she is a swimmer and loves the water.

On fishing and laking

We fish, camp, hike, swim, boat and just sit by the water. I'd rather live in a tent by a lake than in my own house.

Our family camps at Christmas and Thanksgiving. My Mom & Dad, Brother-wife-kids (boyfriends), sister-husband-kids, me-fiance-kids (boyfriends) all get together plan meals and what to bring and head to the campsite. We have done many of the State Parks of Texas. We are working our way up to taking our dogs. My family isn't as "in to" the dogs as I am.

When it is just us, we take the dogs. They love any outing!!! Mostly, they know they are a part of the family and should be wherever we are.

My main advice is blankets for the car seats, lots of towels, and sunscreen for the white on your dogs!!

Can he swim? Yes (that's how I voted)

Does he like to swim? No

But he loves going for rides in the boat. I think he might grow to like it except the park where we keep our boat doesn't allow dogs on the beach. They have to go directly from the car to the boat. At the bark park he just ran up and down the docks barking at all the dogs in water. It's too cold to go in the water up here now, but we'll keep trying!

sink or swim?

Bobby (at the bridge) loved to play in the water, but if he went out over his head, he just sank. Our other two boy dogs can tread water, but prefer not to. They do love to play in it though. Hoping Cassie will be our first swimming boxer!:D
