Yes, Boomer has a mild case of separation anxiety...but be has come a long way from that first month we were together last August. He escaped from a plastic crate I was borrowing from a friend, and also escaped from his wire crate we use now. I lived in an extended-stay efficiency apartment for a month before moving into a duplex, and the manager used to tell me that Boomer would calm down about 30-45 minutes (howling at the top of his lungs) after I left for work every morning. on those days he decided to escape from his crate, he would wake up about 30 minutes before I usually arrived home and howl again. There were two occasions that he was so anxious to find me that he latched the door shut, and maintenance had to be called. I can tell you he was awfully confused why I could not get inside.
He destroyed a $300 suit two weeks after I brought him home from Houston
We've been in the duplex for about six months now, and he's getting better, but he still barks & howls for 20-30 minutes everytime I leave him. He knows when I squeeze his tiger (it roars) and drop a bone in his crate that it is time for me to go.
I'm glad I have understanding neighbors. The first couple of months, my neighbor used to come into the back yard and talk to Boomer through the window. It's still embarrasing to hear his cries for help when I lock the front door, but at least you can no longer hear him from the garage.
Cheers,
