I'm not a real affection person 'till comes to Gunther my boxer. My BF expressed a little annouance and confustion about this for the first time last evening. I didn't know how to explain it to him so I just said something like Gunther is simmilar to a baby that people are driven to nurture. Do any of you show more affection to your boxer than signifacant others? I could no more stop my display of affection to Gunther than I could stop breathing the air I breath. Any suggustions on how to handle/explain?

Haha, let's just say I've heard my husband say this on more than one occasion:

"Maybe if I pee on the floor and jump all over the furniture I'll get a little more attention around here."

I am not an affectionated person either and also don't care for kid that much but with Max is different, maybe it is the way he looks at me or how he sometime need to be really close to me, that I always end up petting him and letting him hug me and kiss me.

LOL I am sooooo guilty!!! But then again, I am single. Men don't appreciate being told that they will come in 6th after my daughter and 4 dogs. Not much attention, love or patience left for a man. LOL Besides, I don't miss a man much - I still sleep with 3 boys, all hairy, stinky, farting and snoring. So all I need a man for is to work the power tools and get the oil changed in my car!

Yeah well my Mum has often told me that she,d love to live in my house IF SHE WERE A DOG.When DH enters the house with his boots on im saying" uh boots ?" His reply is oh yeah the dogs can come in with dirty wet paws and there is not a word said and I cant put one foot inside with my boots on .But honestly how can one be mad with wiggle butt-in slobbery kissing boy who just wants to be loved and makes you laugh with his goofyness, they work their way into your heart and then there,s is no going back.

Dante does get a lil more of my nurturing attention now that you mention it. My husband is a soldier and spends a lot of time in the field, and JUST left on deployment. Dante is my lil buddy when he's gone and I just spoil him like a mother spoils and loves her child. That's not to say I don't give affection to my husband, we have a very affectionate relationship, but it is different. I could give Dante kisses all day. Idk what it is.

Actually I think I do, lmao. I watched a documentary on dogs, that compared a woman breast feeding her child, and an owner petting their beloved dog. The same chemicals in the brain are released in both interactions. For all parties involved, including the dog. This chemical induces a bond, to promote bonding with a newborn child. Considering the same chemical is released while loving your adorable little wiggle butt, it makes sense that you would be extra affectionate with your dog.

My DH once asked me if I had to chose between my dogs and him who would I chose? I told him if he really loved me he would never make have to make that decision. To be honest, I know my husband can take care of himself, and Thor has health issues that I know need special attention. Another thing, since we got Arabella, who is a daddy's girl, there hasn't been as many issues. Until we got Arabella the dogs had a lot more rules. ;)

When I first started dating my husband he would get really jealous of the dog and he would let me know it. Over time I've learned to make more of an effort to pay extra attention to my husband and he's learned to deal with the love I give my dogs. I also told him that before we got married that he needs to know and accept that I will always have a dog in my life. It helps that he is a pilot so I have opportunities to really pay attention to my dogs. It did help when I made an effort to pay more attention to him so you could always try that.
