Ruby will come if she thinks she's getting a treat or if I am doing something more interesting than what she is doing. However, if there is a cat anywhere, then you can't even get her attention, she turns into one of those "deaf boxers". We are working on coming when we are called, and learning that unless we really want her, then we don't call her.

well people it really does take time and practice, mine come everytime, the way we trained ours is this; My husband would stand at the end of the driveway and I at the other end , both of us would have a pocket of treats. one of us would hold the dog still, then the other would give the command COME, we would let the dog go, and she would run to the command to recieve the treat. This took several weeks, we would do it for maybe 20mins a day, Then all of a sudden we notice they were coming when called at other times. Oh what a blessing to have a dog come when it is called , it is worth all the time you spend training them.

I wish!!

Kobi isn't very old yet (just under 5 months) and he kinda comes when he wants to unless he knows that I have treats. I guess it's just a matter of time and determintation to get him to come whenever I call no matter what he's doing. But it's all good, I love him just the same!!lovicon

comes when called

No matter what he is doing, Austin always comes when we call him. "Austin come" is all we have to say! He even comes when we don't call him-like when we open the refrigerator!!:p :p

THEY CAN DO THAT!!!

Just kidding, mine usually come when I call them, unless they are plotting something.

I voted yes, every time. BUT, that is when Daddy(my husband) calls her. If I call her when she's outside, she listens if nothing else has her interest.
And sometimes, just laying in the sun is more important than listening to mommy.

The expression on their faces when they are called is priceless - 'what do you mean, COME'? But.... use the clicker and they're there in a flash!!

I said yes every time but there IS an exception (remembering that it is winter here!) - after we've been running around the paddocks and in the creek, Ali needs to be hosed and dried off before going inside, but she tends to be deaf and hide at the back door - I can't blame her it is cold - but so is playing in the creek! I do try to make it not so horrible by calling her round to the hose some days and not hosing her - obviously when she's already clean!
