How was Dozers weekend? still doing good.
I had to take Chopper with me this weekend to my part time job (vet hospital) and he has a sinus infection. And I took Harley last week and he has Kennel Cough. So I am giving them both vitamin C and I have to give Chopper antibiotics so I am being creative with the medication. I only had peanut butter this morning but will be getting him the marshmellows after work - he loves them. Also need to get more yogurt too :(

I always wrapped Bufords pills in cheese. I'd give him some plain cheese as a teaser, then I'd slip him the cheese with the pill in it. I'm so glad to hear that Dozer is doing better - keep us posted on his progress!

Hello

Sorry I havent been on for a bit!!! Very busy. And I hate my computer!!!!!
Its been working funny and I daont even bother trying to get on line!!!!
JUNK!!!! HEHE. Well Dozer was great for awhile but we are right back to him hurting his lil legs are so huge. We have had him in and out of the vets office for about 2 weeks! Now he seems to be gaining weight and is trying to walk. He is so very heavy now and boy is that fun when I wake up in the morning and Im still half asleep to let him out!! But things could be worse we thought about putting him down last week. I just couldnt! Me and my boyfriend fought alot about it! The vet put him on some very good pain killers!!! I dont think Dozer felt any pain...Hint...Hint they gave him a opum shot (im not shure if that is how you spell it). Dozer was on cloud 9. Than we brought him home the next day. Poor lil man! He has been doing some walking but not much. He gets very tierd quick. Well I will keep you posted on every thing. Thank you all for you support!!

Manna 81; Sorry for the late post, I just read all of your posts on your health issues with Dozer. Poor boy, I can't imagine how awful that has been on him and you. I try to not visit these post as much cause they just make me cry.. it brings back the hurt feelings over loosing my Riley. although he didn't have the same health problem, But I do know how hard it is to deal with your baby when they are sick and hurting, although sounds like Dozer has really been a little fighter.. and so has his Mama for not giving up. I hope that the new meds will be the miracle that will turn things around. I know that Cream cheese was what worked with Riley taking meds. he loved peanut butter but after awhile would take the p-nut butter and spit out the pill <G>. they get so smart.. Sending lots of (((positive healing vibes))) and lots of hope and Faith.. kEEPING YOU BOTH IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS..~ Some Soft hugs for Dozer~ Vickie

My 5 month old brindel boxer boy was just diagnosed with Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD). It is a very painful thing for my lil guy. And there is no cure for it. Its causes lameness and alot of pain in a young dog. About 2 weeks ago he was very sick and completly stoped walking. We thought maybe he had a touch of the flu or something but when he wouldnt even stand to potty outside we knew something was wrong. We took him to a vet in our town...They had no clue what was going on the had a very high fever and walked like he was drunk. So they put him on meds. We came home he got better for about 3 days. Than it went all back down hill. Once more he had a fever and was in such pain that when we took him outside he would just cry and cry. He has lost alot of weight and has no musle mass in his back legs. Well made an emergency call to a vet that was a town away he took such good care of my lil.guy Dozer.... anyway we took a blood test right away and started him on an IV. The next morning the vet called he said Dozers fever went down and the next step was Xrays. Well the vet called back maybe an hour late and said its HOD very rare. He hasnt see HOD since
he was in school. So back to all of you with puppies just make sure you watch them. I have been looking this stuff up and researching so much. Its mostly in large breeds. Signs start around 3mon. to 5mon. of age. So I just wanted to give some people a heads up because I had no idea what HOD was and so dogs can die from it. If you have any questions go to your search and read about it. Or you can write me back. If you know about HOD and had any advise let me know. Thanks, manna81
Thank you, My female boxer had the same problem.she stayed over night at the vets office.I asked the vet if he knew what was wrong with her. He said that he would have to check the xrays and would let me know. I asked him if he checked for HOD he said he will. He called a little while ago and said it was HOD. and maybe we caught it soon enough. He put her on a P/D and pain killers
Thanks again.

this may be what happened to my first pup...

Wow, this is very sad, yet interesting. Our first boxer pup was only 5 months old when we had to let him go to the Rainbow Bridge. Long story as short as possible - he had 2 seizures, could not walk, had a high fever, had very little feeling in back legs and lower back, CBC's came back normal, X-rays showed nothing, vet thought he had gotten distemper from the distemper vaccine so the vaccine company paid for complete autopsy at MSU here in Michgan. MSU found nothing at all after testing every square inch of my poor baby. The night before we let him go, he was in the hospital all night...by the time my vet saw him the next morning, he was blind, could not swallow and was very painful. The best thing for him was to let him go. Best of luck manna81 with your baby, I sincerely hope you do not have to go through what we did. If anyone can relate to what happened here or has similar stories, I would be greatful to hear them. As of yet, no one has any idea what happened to Tucker, but I will be doing some research on HOD.

dozer

My vet said that there was only one other case reported of a boxer in Ohio that had HOD could this be dozer? and maybe lil Shelby is related?
she is doing better today even though she is on the p/d and seems like she is still hungry, but I don't want to feed her too much.I want her healthy but we need to slow down her growth.
