I don´t drive and he bought me a beetle (old model), it was a wreck.
So he told me I had to get my permit within a year or he will sell it.
He loves the car and he loves tinkering about with the engine, so I truly believe that he bought the bloody thing for himself.

I normally tell my BF what I want because he can't even make up his mind what he wants for dinner.... so deciding on a present for me would be impossible! I have been on at him for just over a year to get his finger out his butt and get an engagment ring on my finger.... so last christmas when he said he'd got me a surprise I got mega excited thinking that he was going to propose..... nah no such luck he'd bought me a lady shaver! Lol (he did get me an MP3 player too but I'd picked that)

And yes I am still waiting on that proposal still no sight of that diamond ring.

Usually, my BF packs us both in the car a few days after whatever special event, drives us to a mall, and says, "Pick something you want, but remember I'm poor." This year, I got the pretty diamond ring -and he picked it out all by himself, too!

So my hubby did pretty good this year. BUT his mom didn't. She got US a bagel and fried egg maker!! LMAO!!! I opened it up and didn't understand why on earth she would get us a toaster?? But then she explained "see, it makes fried eggs too!!" His sister was there and started busting up laughing at the expression of confusion and trying to act surprised all in one.
She said "I seen it and thought it was the neatest thing" LOL. No, she seen it and it was on sale so she bought it. Well, she means well.
So, we decided to use it when friends stayed over on New Years Eve. So the thing weighs like 50 lbs and he finally got it out of the box and couldn't figure out the stupid thing. I mentioned that wouldn't it be much quicker to do it the old fashioned way. LOL.
Love this thread. I crack up at all of the crazy gift ideas.
Last year he didn't know what to get me and I guess in the stores asked various people if they would like gift a) or gift b) and when I opened the gifts they were to me from "said" person. LMAO. My husband is a nut. But "said" people picked pretty good gifts I might add.

LOL, Stephen isn't so great with gifts either. The first year we were together he got me a car buffer :eek: I will say that that year I got my first brand new car and was very careful with keeping it nice and clean but a buffer? We ended up giving it to his brother when he bought that car off of me.

Several years ago, my sister and I talked our husbands into thinking this was the greatest idea.....that WE girls will do the husbands' shopping for his wife! We even wrap them for him, being the thoughtful sister-in-laws that we are!Ok, here's what we do. Every year, my sister and I tell each other what we want! Sometimes we just see things when we're out shopping together. Other times, we just point blank tell the other one about some item. Working up the surprised reaction when we open gifts is fairly easy!!! Sometimes the husband wants to know what 'he' got his wife, and other times, he don't care. As long as she's happy! I keep receipts and give to my brother in law. He just forks over the money! Works out great!! We get the things we really want and the husbands think they are better then soap on a rope!!

After reading what all of you had written, I feel pretty fortunate. We have been together for 13 years and I have always gotten something really nice. The first year together I got diamonds. Then, I have gotten expensive purses (coach, prada), a kitten, nice dresses, etc. This year I got a massaging recliner. It's not the vibrating kind, it has the balls that go up and down and all around. We aren't rich, not even close, but he always gets me something nice.
