does anyone elses spouse/partner......

Since there was a thread going about GREAT holiday gifts I was just wondering if any of you are blessed (like I am ) with a spouse or partner who buys them very bizarre gifts...you know the kind that you open and have to try very hard to control your facial features over???

My DH never ceases to amaze me and I try hard to appreciate his gifts, he does put alot of thought into them but they run to the bizarre side of things. This year he got me a restaurant grade french fry/potato slicer. It is so heavy I couldn't even barely life the box and when I opened it this is what came out of my mouth... "why in the world did you get me a car jack?" b/c that is exactly what it looks like LOL. So now I have this 20lb fry cutter that has to be bolted to studs in the wall when I don't even make fries all that often. I guess once when I was cutting potatoes for fries I mentioned that a fry cutter would be nice so of course he went on the internet and got me the mercedes benz of fry cutters...guess that proves the saying. be careful what you ask for....

haha! I am sorry but I feel youir pain! My fiancee is or can be the worst at giving gifts! One year I got a toilet seat cover!! hahaha! This year I got a mp3 player for my truck... i didn't ask for one, and i have no problem using my cd payer, but I acted enthused, and thanked him. It's now sitting in my truck! I got nothing I asked for for x-mas, I even got a tea cup set from my dad.. 2 cups, and 2 saucers..real ugly!! I can't even re gift that, its too gross!!

Maybe your dh is trying to tell you that he wants fries more often

OMG...your post made me laugh so hard I just spit Dr. Pepper EVERYWHERE... I can't say that I have ever been given a gift more bizarre than that!!! That's awesome, though - he pays attention!

I've been throught it! The first year Dh and I were married he got me 10 pairs of black socks all wrapped in different boxes because I once mentioned a pair of my black socks had a hole! :rolleyes: Ever since then I have bought what I wanted early and handed it to him and said "here wrap this, its for me from you!" This year I was really scared when he said he wanted to get something for me on his own, I was really surprised when I opened a new ipod.

I know your pain about getting weird gifts. My husband and yours must have been separated at birth. My husband never ceases to amaze me. I should have known on my 35th birthday which was 17 days after we got married and he got me 3 spatulas. The kind that come plastic wrapped. He had paid $2.49 for them as he left the price tag on. I was so shocked! I thought for sure he would have gotten me something nice as we were newly weds. NOOOOO. About 10 days later he bought me a van. He had been dealing on it before my birthday and had kept a secret. I had forgiven him for this stunt until our first Christmas. I had said how I really needed an iron skillet. Thats what I got. Very nice skillet but totally not what I thought I would get. This type of stuff has went on for years! This Christmas was along the same lines. I splashed some bleach on my favorite navy blue sweatshirt a couple months ago. That is what I got for Christmas...a navy blue sweatshirt. Im not shocked....

Your post made me laugh. You have to admit though it’s cute that he’s listening and trying so hard. I’m sure that potato cutter was hard to find. I usually make a wish list for my husband so he has ideas. For example I say “a new bottle of perfume” but he picks the brand & scent so it’s still somewhat of a surprise. Sometimes he picks something that I have not mentioned but it usually ends up being really cute. This year one of the things he bought me was a bikini (we have two tropical vacations coming up). It was adorable and I was shocked he was able to pick something like that. I found out that he has a list that he keeps in his wallet that lists all my sizes (clothes size, shoe size, bra size, etc) which I think is sweet.

This year I was really scared when he said he wanted to get something for me on his own, I was really surprised when I opened a new ipod

My first one too! He picked it because I had an old portable CD player that skips when I go running. I guess I complained a time or two about it! This thread is funny because it shows they do listen they just sometimes pick up on our gripes or practical needs intead of really nice things! Next year I'm gonna start saying things like darn it I lost a diamond earring!

I normally tell my BF what I want because he can't even make up his mind what he wants for dinner.... so deciding on a present for me would be impossible! I have been on at him for just over a year to get his finger out his butt and get an engagment ring on my finger.... so last christmas when he said he'd got me a surprise I got mega excited thinking that he was going to propose..... nah no such luck he'd bought me a lady shaver! Lol (he did get me an MP3 player too but I'd picked that)

And yes I am still waiting on that proposal still no sight of that diamond ring.

LOL... I didn't want to be too hard on hubby so I wasn't going to mention this but he also got me a new spatula, new kitchen tongs, and an emersion blender. All of them are extremely high end and very nice ( and I will admit to saying I'd like to have them) just not what one would expect under the x-mas tree I don't ever get upset at these "ingenious gifts", they actually make me smile cause at least I know that he listens when I say I want things. Next year I am going to start early and say how lonely and cold me ears are and wouldn't they be much better off with a caret or 2 of diamonds keeping them warm and comfy!!!! AND I AM GOING TO KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT WHEN IT COMES TO PRACTICAL WANTS AND NEEDS. Who wants practical for x-mas!!!
