For the last 6-7 years, since our first furkid passed, we've been able to use lawn fertilizer and weed-killer on our lawn. While our lawn doesn't look great, it's decent.

We became Boxer-owned about mid-January this year. OUr lawn needs help from over the winter.

Does anyone use any lawn stuff and own a dog? What products do you use that is safe? I would like to fertilize but am afraid to. Otis gets free rein in the backyard as it's fenced in.

How do you handle lawn care with the pets running around?

Thanks for any help/advice!!

We get our lawn treated every year. We just have to keep off of it for so many hours then its fine to walk on. If its okay for kids, its okay for the dogs. Never had any problem.

we only treat the front yard the back yard is the boxers and they don't like anything on it, you can use a product called growganic its turky poop in a pellet form as far as weeds go corngluten meal is a natrual weed killer but you have to use it for a couple of years before it realy starts to kill...

Forgot to mention, we use organic fertilizer, its only the weed killer that we pay more attention to and you have to stay off of it for awhile. Our dogs have their own area which is not sprayed because there's not much grass left:LOL:

Though we don't use fertilizer on our lawn, My biotech class has been doing a project on growing plants/grass for VaTech. My group initially chose to use ammonia as an experiment, but we switched to a fertilizer! So the fertilizer we chose was potassium nitrate. I'm not sure about the chemical properties..whether it is poisonous or not. You could probably look up something on it and find out. But it works very, very well. Our plants/grass grew probably 5X or more faster than everyone else's plants. We are done with our project, but no one else is :p Some others you could check into are potassium phosphate, magnesium sulfate, or calcium nitrate. Good luck with your lawn.

I was told by an old greens keeper that if you seed and keep your lawn well seeded and thick the weeds do ot get a chance to grow.

I use to Kelp liquid to fertilize in my back yard and on our cedar hedge. I like it as it is all natural, it looks gross but it works great
