I don't think we do anyone here a service by pointing out that they sound immature. If the intention here is to better educate others then we could do that without the insults.

Some very good points were brought out that definitely deserve closer consideration. Collectively highlighting those points would be much more effective, imho, and can potentially help the person reach a better decision. ;)

I didn't say he WAS- I said he SOUNDS. Totally different. As I said I don't know him, his 'true' living arrangements, income, things like that. BUT from the questions and the statements hes made...I gather a hint of immatureness.

Why don't you adopt a rescue animal instead? There are many dogs out there who were bought as puppies from people who thought they wanted a dog, and then realized they couldn't afford it, weren't stable enough, didn't have the patience to train it, or just lost interest all together.

Point being, if this idea isn't appealing to you, and you don't think you can handle a 50lb, hyper, playful 2 yr old rescue dog, you might want to rethink your plans about getting a boxer pup right now. The puppy won't be a tiny, cuddley puppy forever.

Great Idea Autumleigh- getting an older dog will also save on $$ from all the beginning puppy shots and spay or neuter.

Live to Ride--I have to agree with everyone else. About 3 years ago I too very very badly wanted a boxer puppy (so did my boyfriend -now husband), but I knew it wouldn't be fair to the puppy to live with me when I didn't have the resources or space to take care of a puppy. Though they would get so much love from me would it be enough when I couldn't even provide them a backyard or not be able to take care of emergency vet bills. I lived in a tiny 1 bedroom apt on the 3rd floor (not ideal for middle of the night potty time) and I knew that a boxer puppy would grow and need room to play. Plus my finances weren't the greatest either at the time. So I decided to wait and I'm soo glad I did. I read up on the breed, checked into the local boxer clubs, vets, breeders, and doggie day care (which isn't cheap!), talked to boxer owners, and joined boxerworld to read up on everyone elses experiences. Then I started buying things I would need a little at a time. Believe me if you buy the crate, toys, food, bowls, odor/stain remover, bed, collar(s), leashes, gromming stuff, treats, etc..all at once you will spend a whole paycheck! Don't forget saving money to buy the puppy. 2 years later we were able to purchase a home with a huge backyard, but we still waited until we could get the yard fenced. We finally got her just this past December. It helped a great deal to do all these preparations. To be honest though I was still a little shocked with just the amount of $$ it costs for her puppy shots, heartworm medicine, Flea and Tick medicine, and then when we get her spayed here soon. Not to mention that they do need some sort of trainng so they don't grow up to be 60lbs of muscle you can't control. Luckily I did do my homework and with our love and patience not only is she a happy puppy we are happy as well and still learning! :)

I wish the best for you and though it may seem like you'll never get your boxer puppy, the right time will come and you too will be glad that you waited.

Why is it that you think I am clueless about what it takes to own a dog/pet? We have a cat that is close to 10 + years old and have owned a few dogs in the past. We had to get rid of the dogs though because they always attacked our neighbors chickens. I think I have learned enough though about dogs from those experiences so that I can provide one with a good home. I'm only living with my brother for a few more months anyway, next year the people I may be living with all want to get a dog as well.

I just wanted to give my take on the situation. I know what you are going through. I've waited over 7 years to start seriously looking for my boxer. You'll only be doing the puppy/dog an injustice if you get one when you're not ready. Give it some thought, and I know you'll do the right thing according to the puppy's needs. Good luck with whatever decision you make!

I think whether it be a puppy or a 2 year old dog, finances have to be in order either way. Having a dog, is like having children. They get sick, they need to be fed, they need supplies, and they need love, devotion, and training/guidence.

If you do NOT have a steady income or residence, why would you bring a baby / puppy into the the picture? Atleast with puppies you HAVE the decision, of the life you can give it, I know with children there are "accidents"!!

I think being a member to this site is a great thing, a use full tool. BUT some people loose sight of the moral definition of having a puppy, and get caught up in the "cuteness" factor, and the cause of just having something new and impressionable.

For every person on this site who gets a puppy, I bet you atleast half the people on here either think or look into another addition for themselves. It's human nature, and normal, but it happens!! It's kinda like a fad, you don't even think of the negatives on your thoughts or decison, because you are so focused on your goal, the new puppy!! You can be very narrow minded, and unless you hear the words you want to hear, you get defensive and angry.

So all in all, from an outsiders perspective, I must agree with several others, and admitt that no, I am sorry, but I really don't think you are ready to have the pleasure of owning a puppy yet. I also agree with the "sounding imature statemant", becaue yes it does SOUND imature, and any mature adult would know that if you can afford to buy a puppy, you definatley can not afford to raise one.

I agree that maybe you should wait. Our one boxer alone has cost us a ton of money in vet bills. I think boxer's are one of the more needy breeds also.

Good news. After this semester I will be living with my parents at home and attending a local school and saving money. Hopefully I can find a puppy then!
