Mozart is a German boxer (ie he was born and bred in Germany where we bought him) and he is quite short and very stocky!
Germans used to crop ears but that practice is now banned I believe, as it is here in UK

.
Tail docking is still carried out in both countries though and Mozart has a tiny little nub of a tail which wasn't docked very well and still gets scabby on the end :(.
We met Mozart's entire family at the breeders where we got him from (mum, dad, grandparents, aunts and uncles!) and they were all short and stocky so we know where he gets it from. We were told that Germans like their dogs to be big and stocky so I guess they had been bred that way deliberately for years.
When I say stocky, I mean very square shaped but with lots of muscle, not fat. Our vet says Mozart is a bit on the heavy side but his muscle definition is very good so he doesn't need to diet.
Cassie on the other hand is a very dainty little girl and is about 3 inches shorter and 30 lbs lighter than Mozart - although she eats far more than he does. Her mother was also very petite but I sometimes wish her ribs weren't quite so prominent as I'm sure people think we starve her :(
Short or tall, fat or thin - I love them all lovicon
