Sorry its been so long, I was so sad and worried that I didn't want to think or write about the subject more than I had to.

The new vet did a barium series on Tuesday and an ultrasound on Wednesday (the ultrasound sprecialist wasn't in the office Tuesday). The barium series pointed them to the problematic part of the intestine, and the ultrasound confirmed the obstruction. It was a 10 foot long piece of string (thin rope) that was used in the backyard to hold up certain plants to the fence.

So an hour after the ultrasound we took him in for emergency surgery (last night). The doctor (after the surgery) said the string had caused a perforation, but by the grace of God his body plugged the hole and kept him from going septic. They cut 5 holes throughout his intestine to cut and pull the string from. They also removed the piece of punctured instestine. Diesel also had some rubber in his stomach (from eating the rubber off of his water bowl one day) that they removed. We can call the hospital in 1.5 hours for an update. They said he has a good chance of recovering, it is just the fact that he hasn't eaten in 7 days. Hopefully they will get him to eat by the end of the day.

So we were wrong as to what he swallowed (the apricot and the dead potted plant were apparently not the culprits) but correct that an obstruction was to blame.

Moral of the story: if you think your baby has swallowed something that won't pass naturally, the barium series will help the doctor find where the object is in their instestines (takes 8 hours or so), and the ultrasound will zoom right in to that area and see what it is and how bad. Now go dog-proof your backyards.

Thanks for all your support, prayers, and assistance. I'll post a few pictures of the recovered Diesel when we get him back. He's a stubborn little guy so I'm sure he'll pull through.
