Diesel is 16 months old, neutered, and has had all of his shots. He started vomiting 72 hours ago, and continued to vomit for 48 hours (maybe 20 times total). We took him to the vet at the 48 hour mark, where they gave him fluids and some antacid for his stomach. He stopped vomiting for 24 hours. Today he drank a little water from the hose about 2 hours ago (it was exciting), but then vomited bright yellow fluid 5 minutes ago.

He has been very lethargic throughout the ordeal. He does not have any pain when we poke and prod him anywhere. He locks his jaw when any food is near his mouth.

He ate a few apricots a few days ago when they fell from the tree (before we could pick them up). He eats plants and grass in the backyard, he may have eaten some woodchips the other day as he tore up a potted plant.

I am taking him to the vet first thing Monday morning, but if anyone has any ideas to help me point the vet in the right direction I would appreciate it.

The thing that catches my attention from your post is the apricots. The pits are toxic - containing an amount of cyanogenic glycosides that can cause vomiting, lethargy and shock (actually, even death). It is likely that he would have ingested the pits... A second problem those could cause is blockage. Either thing could be the cause of his problems. Does your vet know that he consumed those?

Hi and thanks for responding. We did tell the vet about the apricots, and she didn't seem to think they were a problem. I'm beginning to think the pits could be the problem, and maybe there is blockage as well. He hasn't had food since thursday morning, will he be okay until tomorrow morning? He has been urinating fine and even left a firm and healthy looking stool in the yard last night. He just wants to sleep still. I wish it weren't Sunday. Thanks

I think the apricots are the culprit. It is good he is eliminating as that minimizes the fear of a blockage. If he stays stable i would just get him in in the morning. Pink gums, steady pulse, right?

Poor Diesel! I can't imagine what you are going through with him being so sick and on the weekend! I can't offer any medical advice, but just know Ally and I are thinking of you and Diesel! Keep us posted!

Just wondering how Diesel is doing if you took him to the vets and checked for blockage, or if he perked up at all?
