Dino, my 9 ½ year old girl has been to the vet several time and they are unable to give me any answers or diagnosis on her condition. It is getting very frustrating.

Four weeks ago she was drinking ten tons of water, that has slowed down a little bit now, but still drinks good amounts. She looses her bladder when sleeping heavy and we make her go outside to pee every 2-4 hours or she will have accidents. Her appetite is good. Now she seems restless. She stands in the middle of the kitchen for hours in a stair (she’s been leading up to this for a few months), but last night I don’t think she slept at all. Every time I woke up, she was standing in our doorway or hallway just staring. Yesterday I noticed her stomach was extended and hard and her nipple glands were full, almost like she is retaining fluid in them. She is peeing good every time I let her out, so I don’t think her kidneys are failing and retaining water.

The vet has x-rayed her chest and abdomen and checked her for Cancer, Diabetes, Kidney failure, UTI and many others. The only thing she has found was a slightly high calcium count (very slight). The vet said, ‘just monitor her’.

Is it just old age with a mix of something else going on? Dementia and???? I’m taking her back to the vet tomorrow, but any other help would be great.

Hi. How troubling. Did they check her heart? I really have no answers just wanted to wish you well and hope you get some answers for your girl...

They listened to her heart and that was about it. Do you think a heart condition could be related? I know with the extra fluid, her heart might be working over time.

Do you think theres fluid in her abdomen I have been researching lots of thread because I have a sick boxer too and somewhere in my search I saw a thread about that. I can't remember the outcome but you could search for it.

It feels like all of her milk ducts/glands are hard and full and her stomach is hard and big. I have no ideal what is going on with her.

Has your vet checked his liver and blood??
We just went through almost the same thing with our 7 month old. He had a UTI for about 3 months and it just wouldn't go away. Around Halloween he came down with a cough that we though was kennel cough. After a exam, it was decided that it wasn't kennel cough. Due to the cough and the UTI they decided to do some blood tests. As time went on he continued to get worse and worse. He was going potty all the time, drinking all the time, he slept alot (like 20 hours a day), he behaved very well for a puppy (we found out why, he was out of it all the time so just listened to us), was very calm, later he started to become very dazed, drooled excessively, first he would just stand in the middle of a room or stare at the wall, then he started to walk in circles around the house and into walls and finally he stared to have sezuires. We rushed him to the university for an ultra sound which was were it was determined that he had a liver shunt. This is not common in boxers, but has been found.
After we found out what he had almost all of the symptoms. Some of them are: Execssive drinking, drooling, dazed/ basically out of it, extended belly, sezuires, eating non-food items (Max ate rocks), no appetite or little appetite (they lable it as an eating disorder), restlessness (we actually though max had to potty all the time or had worms),coughing, vomiting and some more. After we saw all the symptoms we noticed that Max had almost all of them, but individually we didn't see them as problems.
I would have your vet look into this. We were very lucky to have our vet because it's not usually something that larger dogs get the other vets that looked at him just kept saying he's a puppy, he'll do these things sometimes. It is something that they can treat. Max had his surgery about 2 weeks ago and is doing great now. They also can treat it with jsut med's and diet.
We will keep our fingers and paws crossed and hope that you find out what it is. If you need more info we have a ton, as we have been dealing with this for about 2 months now.

Have you asked about Dementia or a brain tumor?

I would ask your vet to refer you to an internal medicine specialist for an ultrasound

I agree. I personally would get a second opinion. A fresh perspective is always helpful. I'm so sorry your going through this. Please keep us posted.

Update-Dino's condition remains the same. I took her to the vet and had the most upsetting experience. Lets just say, I'll be pulling all my pets records out of there and going some where else from now on.

The vet took X-rays they couldn't use due do too much fluid to see anything, but she knew that upon examination, so why take them? $$$$ money, that's why. She thought possible it was Addison disease, so she ran that test for $140, but she didn't have that disease and was told that test isn't really a black and white type indicator anyways. So why give it to her? $$$$ more money. They ran a CBC/Profile and Electrolytes testing, gave me results of it within the hour. This was puzzling because don't they have to send them out and have a professional read them? The answer is YES. She didn't know what was wrong with her and politely said, 'well, she's 9 1/2 years old and I think it is time to put her down'. WHAT?!?!?! Just like that??? She doesn't look that bad!

I was on the phone immediately after and all week making appointments and talking to other vets for second opinions and every vet asked if my vet drained the fluid and or gave her a diuretic. My vet did nothing for her. The second opinions I got said it sounded like a Heart condition which is treatable with medication, but I need to get the fluid taken care of ASAP. Unbelievable!!!! I almost killed my dog!

I am taking her to a new vet today and he said I'll have her feeling better by the end of the day and in a few days she will be practically back to her old self. I'm so glad! It's my sister in-laws vet and she just went thru the same thing with her dog a few years back. She said he is a really aggressive vet and will try everything he can and will never suggest putting your dog down.

I am so disgusted with my vet. I want to stand outside their office with a 10 foot signs and let everyone know they wanted me to kill my dog with a treatable illness. Just because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. And I can't believe I had to pay $350 for that.

I'll keep you posted with today's visit at the new place.
