Like Cubby I don't regard it as "cosmetic" at all. Both Diva and Monty had their dew claws removed by the breeder, but I have a friend who has a Weimaraner (4 years old) and this Wei doesn't have her dew claws removed. She is forever catching them, one in particular and now this one is really really loose and will require surgery to remove. My understanding is that removing a dew claw on a fully grown adult dog is fairy major surgery, so I think you've done the absolute best thing for the dog.

I'm feeling better AGAIN!!! Thanks, guys! I won't let her comments get to me. She is really a very nice lady who puts in a lot of time, and I get along with her very well. I guess sometimes people just have to agree to disagree.

Thanks again! You are all awesome!!!

Stay feeling better,

my moms dog was one that had an accident and tore hers at a much older age,( actually she had two dogs that did this) had to be removed leaving a big scar and a very upset mother at the sight of all the blood, I guess those little thing bleed a lot. We both said never again it was was too scary.
We had Jake and Maggie's removed when they were "fixed" and they were over 5 months closer to 6 months old. They acted like nothing even happened, the only time it bothered them was when"I" removed the stitches, they didn't want to hold still. (I also removed their stitches from the other surgery) ;)

You did the right thing, my Toby had one of his dew claws grow back (I guess they didn't remove it correctly the first time) and all he had was a big nail growing out of his leg. I had it removed when I had him neutered and he was almost 1 year old and he did fine. It didn't look like it bothered him at all. I think the badage was the worse thing and there really is no scar! Good Luck to your Gretta and her new family!;)
