Dino has had bouts of pancreatitis over the last couple of years. We finally had it diagnosed this Jan. Here were his symptoms:
*He would not eat.
*He would curl up in a tight ball.
*We could hear his stomach squeaking from across the room - not growling, but high pitched squeaks
*He would be very restless, like he couldn't get comfortable.
*When we'd go for a walk, he'd move very slow.
*He would throw up yellow bile.
This would happen just every once in awhile - every few weeks, once every couple of months - it wasn't all the time or on a regular basis. Although it is caused by too much fat in the diet, we could not think of anything different he had eaten prior to his "episodes". Because it was only every once in awhile, we chalked it up to being a typical boxer sensitive stomach. His last bout was this last Jan and he kept us up most of the night with his stomach noises and jumping on and off the bed. So I took him to the vet who did a blood test. It came back positive for pancreatitis. So he is now on a low-fat food. No episodes since...knock on wood! Good luck.
did the noises in the belly sound like gurgling with some squeaks? once in a blue moon, tuff will get this when we go to bed and it always freaks me out... especially the squeaking because it's so loud and unsettling sounding. and now he's been doing this thing the last few months where he'll lay on the couch and just lick a spot on the cushion... and i can't figure out why. he's always been kinda restless after a while when laying (even though he's a pretty lazy guy for a boxer). he gets up a few times in the middle of the night to re-position himself on our bed and sometimes jumps on and off the bed throughout the night. i've done a little research on pancreatitis in the past but never had him tested. i always wonder if reading these forums just makes me jumpy and gives me hypochondria with tuff... but i am a little concerned now because of what you are describing.
he's already on pepcid 2x/day to calm his tummy because he would have bile pukes every morning and we thought the mct's were causing the tummy upset. he doesn't throw up bile anymore, but sometimes he coughs up his food a little after eating. he's never been a chow hound. sometimes he'll let his breakfast sit all day until dinnertime, and then gobble it up when we come home from work. then i give him his dinner a couple hours later and he usually eats it right away.
just curious what food you have Dino on? perhaps i should try switching to a lower fat food (he's currently on Innova Evo turkey & chicken which has Crude Fat (min) 22% according to dogfoodanalysis). i get so confused on what things i should be looking for in a food because the cancer starving diets suggest high omega 3's, low carb... and what you're all saying to treat pancreatitis is to go low fat. the food he's on isn't actually high in omega 3's so i've been looking at supplements anyways.. or possibly switching to their salmon and herring formula which advertises being the lowest carb dry food (8% carbs, 3% omega 3, 43% protein).
ugh, it's so confusing. sorry for the ramble...
