Our 11 yr old boxer was diagnosed with Cushnigs. She is having major skin problems and is showing all the other symptoms like excessive drinking of water, always hungry and is really slowing down. Does anyone have any experience with this disease, please help..

Hello I just went through crushings with my 10 yr old boxer. She had skin issues to. It is not and easy thing to go through. You can talk to your vet and they have different meds they can put your dog on. Lady was about 8.5 went we found out. I switched her to the raw food diet. We would bath her 3times a week to keep the skin clean but she was pretty scaley they will put them on anitbotics for they skin but sometimes it worked for a while and than not anymore. My sister and I both had dogs that went through this at the same time. I tried a more natural way to deal with it and she tried some different drugs.Including the newest one called I believe trilostane. There is a good cushings group to join on Yahoo. Check it out. Lots of support.

my 9 1/2 yr old boxer was just diagnosed in Dec. He is taking lysodren and doing very, very, well. He has some skin issues, shedding alot. I am putting him on EVO dog food since it has no grain fillers, hopefully that will help. I got a ton of useful info from caninecushings.net they are just like boxerworld but for dogs with cushings. Another helpful website is http://www.****************/library/cushingsdisease.html
She actually has a photo of a boxer with Cushing's then after treatment. It is controllable on medication, your dog can live a quality life with the proper treatment. My boxer, Dexter, was drinking water, needing to go out every 2-3 hours, had a couple accidents in the house, eating like a horse, his belly was huge, tired, miserable, and his muscles in his hinds were getting weak to the point he didn't even want to go for a walk. When he was diagnosed he weighed 91 lbs. You do not want to restrict them from food or water with this disease. If you restrict their water they will dehydrate because of the frequent urination associated with Cushing's. NOW, Dexter has lost 7 lbs since Dec. 14th, he goes on 1/2 mile walks daily (hopefully longer when the weather gets warmer), eats and drinks a normal amount. Our vet said his hair, skin, and muscle tone, will get better in 4-6 months. He does have a staph infection on his belly and inner thighs but that is clearing up beautifully. Goodluck to you and check out those websites. Please let us know how you are doing.
