Does anyone know of any events going on in or near Connecticut? I know some of you live here - do you think we should organize one? :)

We are in CT. I also know someone at my husbands work who has two boxers who may be interested, I'm not sure if she knows about Boxerworld. I'll find out and maybe we can get a group together. Harkness Park in Waterford is a wonderful place to go, do you know it?

Well Phoenix (5 month old brindle boy) and I are definitely interested in a Connecticut Boxer bash, I will help organize if you need help. Also wanted to let you guys know about a show in springfield, MA held at the Big E fair groudns on August 21-24. My Kennel club is sponsoring the first day of the show. It is an all breed show but will have plenty of boxers there.. The breeder of my new pup will be there on thursday judging boxers of course.. if anyone is interested in going please do, parking is only $3.00 and admission I believe if free. (no dogs allowed other then the show dogs that are entered).

Hi everyone. Bikerhoff, where is Waterford? I live in Norwalk, but I don't mind driving a bit. ctboxer, where in ct do you live? thanks for the recommendation on the Big E. I haven't been in years, but it's definitely something I enjoy!

Suzanne, I live in Monroe, Conn. we are practically neighbors. Hope to see you at the show in Mass, if not definitely at the conn. boxer bash. How many boxers do you have and did you get them from local breeders???

wow, we looked at houses in monroe for a long time, but i was reluctant to leave my two neices (18 mos and 3 years). they live about a mile away. we have one boxer, jake, who is about 5 years old. we adopted him through a local rescue. do you have any dogs other than phoenix? if so, are they all boxers? there is an off-leash park in norwalk, and i think there is one in fairfield, which is probably closer for you.

Wow is right..We will have to get together at one of the off-leash parks, please let me know where the one in Fairfield is I am only about 20 minutes there and I go to fairfield every other week to the chiropractor. Monroe is a very nice town, I wish you had moved here I could use some new friends.. I am a stay at home mom with two beautiful daughters (ages 5 and 2 years old ) and 2 boxers, Phoenix (almost 5 months) and Jasper who will be 5 years old at the end of August. He is the same age as your boxer how neat.. He has hip displasia pretty bad and I have to limit his physical activity but he is a wonderful dog. What a wonderful aunt you are to want to stay closer to your nieces.. family is sooo very important, I don't really have any near me so I hope your sister/brother that the girls belong to is thankful to have you in their lives..

Here is a great link to a list of dog parks in CT: http://www.dogpark.com/prkct.html. The Fairfield park is listed, as well as Winslow Park in Westport. I've been to Winslow Park, and it's fabulous. The one in Fairfield doesn't specifically say that dogs are allowed off-leash, so I'm not 100% sure they are. ctboxer, What a bummer that Jasper has hip displasia! Is he a larger boxer? I thought it wasn't very common in this breed.

You're right - family is so important! I LOVE being an aunt. My sister definitely appreciates having me in her/their life, and I appreciate her openness to my having such a special relationship with her babies.

I'm a teacher, so I'm home for another month. Let's definitely plan an outing!

Suzanne, thanks so much for the info on the dog parks, I will check them out. I have really made a huge effort to get the puppy out and socialize him as much as possible.. Yes, it really is a very big shame about my Jasper, I baught him from a local breeder in Nov. 1998 for my husband for his birthday. I was new to the boxer breed and did not investigate the breeder before handing her $650.00 for the brindle boy.. In the fall of 2001 we added another boxer to our family (female-tragically died in april 2003) and Jasper started to show signs of coming up lame at night so I brought him to the vet and he did x-rays of his hips and sure enough it was severe degeneratvie hip disease..I have spoken to orthopedic vets and showed them the x-rays and eventually he will probably need a full hip replacement.. I don't know if I will have him go through that or not.. I will just for now give him the best quality of life that I can. He is on no meds, but he is on supplaments and I limit his activity so he is doing pretty good.. some days he over does it and he limps so I give him a buffered aspirin and that seems to help.. Since this has all happened I have done some investigating into the so called breeder and have found out that she is NOT a breeder at all she buys the puppies from someone in Pennsylvania and then re-sells them.. so she is actually a "puppy broker" not a breeder. I have called the dog warden in my town, the AKC, the dept. of agriculture and numerous others to help me shut her down but so far it has not worked, and just this past sunday I saw an add in the newpaper for boxer pups and it was her phone number.. She is a lier and a theif and has such a bad reputation on boxers known all over the state and still she sell the boxers. it is very frustrating.. oh well sorry so long take care and lets get together soon...

Hello Suzanna 828 and ctboxer81! Waterford is in eastern Ct near New London on the shore. It's over an hour and a half from you. It's only about an hour from my home to the Norwalk area, I'd be willing to travel to meet you all somewhere too.

I too am sorry to hear about the hip problems that Jasper has. My puppy is six months now, he still wants to jump all over every other dog he sees and we've gone to about 10 obedience classes! My husband and I need to get him socialized more and train him more how to behave and not to jump up (people too). He only sees the neighbors dog, and my husband lets him jump and play with him.

I look forward to meeting you and your dogs, hopefully there are more CT folks out there who will join us!
