Billysmum
Boxer Insane
Poor Billy - today he had crutiate surgery on his right rear knee. Now this knee was operated on back in November 1999 so the surgery has lasted just under 3 years.
He had surgery to his left knee in May 2001, but that was the then new TPLO procedure - I just hope that lasts longer.
Billy had been limping on and off on his right leg recently and then we found he wasn't using it at all. So he had a course of painkillers and anti-inflamatories which helped a bit but once the course finished he was limping again.
So we went back to the specialist who operated originally and he said the best thing would be for him to open up the joint and see what he could do. Billy is only 5.5 yrs and so we didn't want him to live the rest of his life on painkillers etc.
Anyway, I rang the vet this afternoon and they said they were able to perform TPLO and it all went well. Billy had come round from the anesthetic and I have to ring tomorrow to find out when to pick him up.
Poor Billy - we feel really bad that he has had to have another op, but there you go!
So a word of advice to anyone whose dog has to have this surgery. If the vet offers TPLO or the old method which is cheaper - go for the TPLO.
Will keep you posted on his recovery!
