Gabby's nose is funny looking and rough , what is wrong and will it go away and what can I do for it. It does not seem to bother her none , but it looks awful.

Hi my Boxer Sugar had a crusty nose also. I used triple antiboitic ointment and it worked great. It does come back though so I apply it every so often.

I am so glad I found this post! My boxer has had the same thing on his nose for about a year now. The vet said it was nothing to worry about. That it was common. He didn't say anything about ointment or cream. I am going to try that tonight! Thanks for all the good information. :)

I am so tickled about this and anyone else in the world would think I was weird if I shared......but obsessive, compulsive
Boxer parents will understand :)
Mack has had a strange looking nose for a long time. I've been telling him he looks like W.C. Fields. The cells on the
bridge of his nose are coarse and rough and big.
After boarding him while we went to Texas, he came home with it looking dirty as well.
This past week I've been putting Bag Balm on it as often as he'll let me get away with it. Last night I was sitting on the
floor with him, massaging his knees and then put an old sock over my hand and started giving him a rubdown to
loosen dead hair. He was a limp, relaxed noodle on my lap and as I went over his face and ears, he let me rub his nose.
All that black, ugly stuff came off! He has a nose as sweet and soft as a baby's bottom!
I am just thrilled. It really bothered me because I know he eats well, has all kinds of good oils in his diet, is never left
outside in hot or cold (even moderate) weather and there was just no reason for this coarse nose.
Still can't figure out what causes it, but now I can keep it from coming back :))

Bag Balm ROCKS!!!!

Okay, I know this is an old thread, but a goodie!

Diego's nose is exactly as described above. I knew Bag Balm was going to work - I just knew it ;)! It didn't even take a whole week for the crusty pieces to slough off by themselves. A (boxer lover, trainer, behaviorist) good friend of mine that I regularly consult flat out told me nothing would work. She claims it's a simple matter that some dogs have rough noses, some not. She's tried "everything" - evidently not this :o! Can't wait to share the good news... ~ Lisa

Billy has this rough nose too. I tried vaseline but he just licked it all off. Then the other day my husband held him down and I picked bits off his nose easily. It's not perfect but better looking than before.

A while ago I asked the vet about it, and she looked at me and said 'it's just mud'

MUD????? Do I look that stupid to take my dog to the vet with mud on it's nose?!?!?!?!?!

I think just about any heavy, greasy stuff will do - and they *will* lick most of it off. But if you keep re-applying it, enough will stay to soften the "crust". I used a soft, nubby sock to rub it off. He was so relaxed from having a massage he didn't care when I started on his head and nose. It looks almost like black sand when it comes off.
