I'm already exhausted after reading that, and I don't have my puppy for another 2 weeks!!! I can't wait to have that blurry eyed, I've got a new puppy look.

Puppies got to love them...when we decided on another pup we had to think long and hard, we had to think about how "tiring" and "frustrating" potty training and the sleepless nights were going to be. Not to mention the "teething" I LOVE THE NEEDLE SHARP TEETH PUNCTURING MY HAND! hehe

But through the screaming at 2 in the morning and waking up every 2 hours to take them out..and waiting outside in the freezing cold rain while repeating "go potty, go potty hurry up" about 500 times, and all the puppy does is stare at you and shiver and doesn't WANT to go because its cold and THEY are tired. And finally they decide "dang" i have to go and they do their business finally only 30mn later..you are sopping wet so you have to dry yourself off at 2:30 in the morning you put your dog in the "crate" and realize you just put your pup in the oven cuz you are so incredible tired and can't see straight so after taking the pup out you then continue to put it in the CRATE the right one this time and they proceed to scream!! Not just whimper and whine but SCREAM, so now your neighbors and the state of washington think you are abusing a 3 year old with hot prongs only to find out later you are crate training your pup. So after all that SCREAMING the pup finally falls asleep for about 20mn and then wakes up to SCREAM AGAIN to be let out. So this time you try to wake up your "partner" only to realize the "partner" refuses to wake up..so YOU have to wake up and find your wet clothes put them on but it's hard because you are only going on 15mn of sleep so you are outside just about the time your neighbors are waking up and they notice your clothes are on backwards. So the routine of "go potty, go potty, go potty, you freaking !#$@#$@#$ dog!" Finally decides to go and you have to get ready for work..so you think ok we will let the dog play while you "get ready" but no the puppy decides that fun is having projectile squirts come out and then instead of keeping it in one spot on the living room carpet the pup decides it's better to spell her WHOLE name with the "projectile "stink"" shooting out her rear. So now with one eye lash coated in Mascara you have to clean up the whole living room floor and SHAMPOO it at 6am. Finally puppy decides "yea, now is a good time to take a nap" they crawl up on your lap and they look at you with their adoring unconditional loving eyes and sigh.......and you sigh and then you remember why you love them so much then as you are basking in the quiet moment of love you hear a very silent but deadly "pffffffffftt..."

D's mom,

I needed to read that one. I know I am not going insane now!!! I went through a period of a few days when all I could do was laugh at the puppy or be in a state of sobbing. I am so tired and having to deal with the potty, poop, screaming while at work, worrying about the other dog being too rough with the little dog, etc. etc. etc. I love her more than anything, but I"m tired!!!!

May 27th is when my hubby and I went to pick up our baby boy, and our lives haven't been the same since. He said that he wasn't ready for skin kids yet, so we should get a Boxer. Now, I wonder if I'm ready for skin kids.
He was 8 weeks when we brought him home, it was a 3 hour drive and he would whimper when he has to "go." Finally we got home a 2:30am and got about 15 mins of sleep. The next day we packed to go to the sand dunes and he became a momma's boy. Ever time someone would start up their 4 wheelers, he would run behind me.
We did the get up every 2 hours, take turns, for potty breaks. I have never heard of Crate training (like I said this is our first pup) so we let him sleep with us.
Now a week later, he has grown. He has master the stairs, still can't jump on the bed but whispers when he wants up. We have had a few pee accidents when he plays with my neices, but no poo ones. He's such a good boy. I think about him when I'm at work which is M-F 9-6 but my hubby works T-S 7-7 so he has time with both of us for some one on one.
He still sleeps with us but we have got him to sleep at the bottom of the bed, sometimes he crawls up but what can you say, excepts sometimes... "PHEW".
My baby is sure growing up fast!!!

I feel like part of the group already

I have thouroghly enjoyed reading this thread! My 7 week old boxer jut spent the first night with us last night and I can already relate to some of this. I definatly agree with it being worth it! Kobe is sooo sweet, loving & cute!! :p I can tell already that he's going to be an awsome dog! We really wanted one that would be good with our two boys who are 5 and 7, and I think (hope) that we've found him!

It's nice to hear that other people are tired and struggling, but that you all agree it's worth it! I just picked up pictures of my Meeko (8 weeks) and she is so adorable I could rush home and get her - if only I didn't have to work. I am just hoping that once she gets used to the crate some more the whining will a least subside a little. I plan to continue crate training no matter how bad it gets - I think it's good - but boy does she break my heart!

One good things about her stinky farts - it tells me she's gotta go, and boy does she ever! :D

I know for me and my first puppy it was a learning experience. I decided to crate train and it has been the best decision. She is only in there for about 4 hours at a time.

That is what I expected and boy was I wrong. Jasmine is now 9 months old today and can not be left in the house alone. I tried it once and she chewed on my fiancee's motorcycle. She likes her crate, mostly because she knows she gets a kong filled with treats. Good luck and your new addition, I bet you can't wait! It is a lot of work but I wouldn't trade one day of it. :)

Bridget,
I too have plans on crate training my pup, and will be able to
come at lunch to let her out to potty and play. After reading
all of these threads, I am not sure it will work, but you said,
it worked for you, and you could leave yours for up to 4 hours,
how did you do it, and did your pup have alot of messes in the
crate to start with?

Stay with the crate training. It does get better! Kobe is now 15 weeks old and although he does not go into his crate by himself he does do well once we get him in there. He very rarely wakes me up at night to go out anymore (he sleeps through the night). He has peed in his crate before, but has never pooped in there. He can hold it all day now and also at night when we're sleeping.

It's hard to handle the whining an barking at first and it seems like it will never end, but it does get better!! It really is best for them and you!!

If you are persistant and patient I think it will work. Jasmine has peed in her crate when she was younger but has never pooped. She was good about holding it most of the time. A good idea is to let your pup get plenty of exercise before you put them in that way they are worn out. Also I always let Jasmine out to go potty a couple of times before I am about to leave the house just in case. Just recently she ended being in there longer than usual and got a little freaked out. Good luck and keep us posted.:)
