After work last night, I go home to start dinner for the kids. DH is downstairs working out, I'm up and down doing laundry, etc. Winston is following me with one of his toys, we are kind of playing tug and such in between chores. So I'm back in the kitchen and between all the activity I don't realize the Sir Winston has disappeared. I thought he was downstairs with DH until I hear the faint rustling of a plastic bag........

I go around the corner to my living room to find Winston finishing off the hot dog buns  Now, I'm generally very good about not leaving stuff around because he has already proven he is a force to be reckoned with. But I didn't even think of the damn hot dog buns - they hadn't been opened, just in their bag sitting on the counter...waiting....

I know many of you have owned many different breeds of dogs and I'm just wondering....Are boxers worse than other breeds about counter surfing or is it an individual thing? My rottie would only mess with food if it were left at eye level. She NEVER got on my counters no matter what was up there...was I just lucky?

Can't wait to read the feedback.

By no means are boxers the worst, I give that title to Rhodesian Ridgebacks -They are master counter-surfers and have cast iron stomachs; they think they are always hungry and will eat anything that doesn't eat them first. ;)

I have to say that the boxer boys far surpass my black lab in the counter surfing department. Ours especially love to eat a loaf of bread if they can get ahold of it. They will literally pull something from the back of the counter (i.e. - a bowl full of tomatoes - who would have thought?!?!?). If you watch ours, you can see them look at the counters everytime they pass through the kitchen!!

I have heard a lot of horror stories about the countersurfing trait but Fletcher has NEVER done this. I once left an entire bag of McDonalds hamburgers ont he counter when I had to go back to the drivethru and he never even touched it. Althought he was sitting by the counter when we got home drooling profusely

None of our boxers have ever counter surfed but our families black lab was notorious for making off with any food he could find - I tell you he could whip the biscuit out your hand without you noticing :)

In my experience Labs are the worst-we have a Lab friend that visits and she is positively stealth-nothing is safe :) But we love her anyway. Newfs are the best-they seem to be naturally polite dogs :) As for my guys my boy has never done it and my girls bear watching

Silly question, are you all talking about them just snatching what they can from ground level or are they actually getting ON the counters?
