I'm not sure where exactally this thread should be posted.

I'm getting married in July and with getting married we are purchasing furniture for our house. So far the only thing we have had trouble with is the couch. Well we keep our white boxer puppy inside all the time. She gets free roam to a certain extent right now. (We have a baby gate and keep doors shut to limit her). One of the rooms she has access to is the living room. So what would be the best type of couch to buy? Of course she sheds, so we are kind of thinking leather/vinyl. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone had any better luck with one type of material over another?

We had bought the cheaper leather couches a couple years ago and they were trashed within a couple months. Now we have thicker high quality leather couches and I'm so glad we went with them. I'm not a fan of leather but we have two kids and two boxers on the couches and they still look good. I wouldn't get vinyl our first leather couches were a mix of leather and vinyl and they ripped at the seams and couldn't stand up to normal use.

We have a gorgeous sectional that my parents bought for us for our wedding gift. It is off white! But the fabric is amazing. It is microfiber. The dogs are constantly on this couch and drooling in their sleep and shedding a bit here and there. I just take a warm wet cloth and wipe off all the drool marks and let it dry. Its as good as new. The hair just gets vacuumed right off too. Everyone we know that has this type of fabric loves it! My Binlaw had people over to their house one night and someone spilt red wine on his couch. It wiped right out! No stain or nothing.

Last fall we purchased a microfiber couch and loveseat and we love it. It looks like brown leather. The salesman said it was dog and kid proof. The dog hair doesn't stick to it at all. I try to keep a blanket on the seat cushions, just so the dogs don't get slobber and mud on them - they are new afterall. They wipe off easily tho.

We bought a tan microfiber couch from Crate & Barrel for our new house last spring. Soon after, Sam arrived on the scene. Though he's not allowed on the furniture (and I think we're very lucky how well he respects what's not his), he does slobber, drool and fling eye boogies all over it ;) mmm. With a quick wipe of a wet paper towel, the couch is good as new. Amazing! Pricey, but definitely a great investment (and comfy too!).

We have a leather couch and it seems to be holding up ok. There are marks where the cat clawed it but other than that it is alright. I am not a fan of it, it is comfortable and nice looking but not very cozy.

I think this couch is going to end up in the family room or game room and a new microfiber one in the living room. I have heard amazing things about microfiber and the people in this thread have just reconfirmed what I have already heard.

I have to echo the greatness of the microfiber!! It's stood up to running leaps nonoicon onto the cushions, jumps up and over the back of the loveseat (again nonoicon), being used as a napkin after eating, all the vaccuming of the dog hair, slobber, and even when Abbi was having issues with her anal glands (ick, I know...), and all of the *wonderful* things that come with having two boxers in the house. Ours is a sage green-ish color and it hides the brindle hair from the dogs perfectly. I don't realize how much is on there until I vaccum it!

We have a leather couch and it has held up to 2 kids and 5 dogs just fine. We are very happy with it.

We bought a microfiber sectional around Christmas and I love it! It vacuums nice and spills wipe up easily with a damp cloth. I found some microfiber throws in coordinating colors that I tuck over a couple of cushions that Bayleigh reclines on. I just switch throws every couple of days.

I bought my boxer his own little bed to but in the living room, just for him. It works he would rather sleep on his little bed instead of the couch!!. Good luck, my suggestion a thick leather.
