Contemplating getting a Boxer

Hello,

New to the forum and I am thinking of purchasing a Boxer puppy. I have been doing some research on the net (how I found this site) and also have purchased a book on the breed. Any tips/info/adivce would be greatly appreciated.

Off to browse the forum now :)

well scott the only advice is exactly what the home page says canine slapstick comedy but i dont think you would be able to find a more loving breed so with that being said welcome to BW MoM & DaD of GDOGS 8/18/05 Brindle,Docked,Floppy and full of Zest

Most inportant advise is to check out the reputable breeders,and don't buy from a petshop, who are supplied by byb's :(

You'll find LOTS of advice in this site :)

Before I would purchase a boxer, I would check out the boxer rescue nearest you. Most often, they will have very, very young dogs or not so young, looking for forever homes. The terrific thing about boxer rescue is that they will be able to tell you about the personality of the dog and that is key. If you purchase a puppy, you don't know what personality that puppy will have. Also, there are sooooo many terrific dogs needing homes...

Could not agree more about getting a "rescued" dog. I have three and they have all been fine. It's amazing just how many fine boxers are turned out of homes for one reason or another.

Howdy from Texas, I agree with the others, check out the local rescues. You wouldn't believe how many great dogs are out there that need good homes and alot of times they have plenty of puppies. Two of our three are rescues, just wish we had room for more!
