RR Tyson

Boxer Pal
canadie

I have had Tyson on Canadie all life stages since we got him at 9 weeks old and he now 17weeks. We have had no problem. Should I just keep on eye on him, do you think he is ok?

I don't feed Canidae any more, but it was what Oscar was eating when we adopted him, and he continued to eat it for quite a while before I rotated him to another brand. I fed Mali the Lamb and Rice variety when we first adopted her, until she was old enough for grain-free kibble. I feel badly that Canidae is not a kibble I can recommend anymore, but with all the problems that I am reading about, I would not suggest it to anyone.

Layla (15 weeks) had some canidae canned food a few days ago mixed with her kibble. She has had diarrhea since then. It's not liquid but basically runny and mushy. Other than that, she seems as active as usual, not vomiting, eating well etc. We mix canned foods in her wellness kibble occasionally but this is the first time we used canidae. So is it possible the canidae is doing this or can this be a symptom for something else?

IMO there are better foods now. I personally can't recommend it. But that is only my opinion.

It's hard to say. I'm not sure if the canned got a formula change also or not. As stated above, I can not/will not recommend it to anyone. But that is just my humble opinion.

Just to follow up on this, the diarrhea lasted only a few days and im almost certain now it was a result of the canidae dog food we gave her. Layla is back on wellness completely and has firm stools and a healthy coat =)

It doesn't surprise me that their reasoning for changing the formula is to cut costs...but why does it cost the same for less the amount (about 5 lbs less) and cheaper ingredients?? I am sure most of us including myself have pinched pennies during this economic crisis except for the quality of my dogs' food. I have three and every 2 weeks like clockwork I have to buy a new bag of food. I would not compromise the health of the dogs for the price (and believe me, i could use a break).

So why would they think it would be OK for them to change the formula just to cut the cost for them? Arg! Although my dogs are not on Canidae (we've tried and they didn't take a liking to it), but nevertheless, it's the start for other companies. How many more will do the same?

I actually came back to Boxerworld to see what was up with Canidae- my landlords dogs both recently became sick- both of their kidney's were "off", and ones kidneys shut down completely, and he was put to sleep Wednesday. :( They were both on Canidae, and he did some research and mumbled some stuff about ingredient changes, and everything. Unfortunately they have no idea what actually caused his health problems, and never will, but he took his only dog now off. I was curious to see just how bad these changes have been!

We took Bella and Trooper off Canidae a while ago, around the time they originally introduced the change, and started feeding Blue Wilderness- its relatively new (to me atleast, I've never noticed it!), and a Blue Buffalo product, but its available at PetSmart (since I work there it's more convenient for us), and it's 6 stars on DFA. Thankfully, she seems to be doing great, and chows down so much more food than she EVER ate of her Canidae. As far as I'm concerned, Canidae is not all it was 3 years ago when we got her, and she will never touch the stuff again!

OMG i had no idea about any of this! My dogs are on Canidae, and just recently Jade has started to have loose stools, and Bruno's coat has become very dry and brittle. He even has patches of hair loss. I just thought it was seasonal alopecia(that is also what the vet said), and maybe that is actual it, but his coat has changed drastically in the past month. What are some other symptoms to watch for??

Originally we
had both Sonny(boxer) and Sammy(puggle) on Imas lamb mix...Sammy became overweight, vet said he needed diet food. After much investigation we decided to switch both to Natural Choice, no fillers, no preservatives, all natural. Sammy losing weight, Sonnys coat looks great! Sammy on diet, Sonnys on sensitive stomach and skin(venison meal). Oh yeah can get at Pet Smart.

Tyson, thankfully, was the runny, watery, poo. It was really bad. It didn't get to the point where he lost weight.
There is a huge thread in the feeding forum reguarding the whole Canidae thing. HTH
