Constant sniffling

My 4 month old male boxer Duncan seems to have a problem breathing through his nose. When we picked him up from the breeder we were told he just had a little cold and we went with that because the week before when we saw him he didn't seem to be sniffling. Now that he's been home it's much more obvious. It's almost like his nostrils are sealed closed. When I look there is a very small opening in nostril area which I sure should be bigger. Is it possible that his nose is taking awhile to develop? He is my fourth boxer and I have never seen this before.

i think its time a vet looks at it. their nostrils should be nice and large. hope your baby is feeling better. let us now.

Our female boxer had small nostrals when she was a puppy. We thought she was sick because it seemed she had trouble breathing through her nose. The vet said we should give her back because it was a birth defect. Well that wasn't going to happen... As she got older the nostrals got larger and she was fine.

That's exactly what my vet said..it's a birth defect! There is NO way I'm giving him back to the breeder..however I am a little peeved that she did not tell me about it. My vet said that as he gets older it will/should improve. My main concern was I didnt want to him to suffer or struggle to breath and he assured me that that this is not the case and he seems to be a healthy boy who I am head over heels in love with!!!!

Wondering if those breathe-right strips would help? LOL

If it is a birth defect, then I would call that breeder and make them aware. They may not actually know it is a defect. I'm suprised they don't have nasal tubes that can be inserted temporarily with today's technologies.

I hope the nostrils grow with age and he's snorting and snoring like boxer's so adorably do.
