Hi Everyone - Its official - Congenital/Hereditary

I said I would keep u informed.

"Babe" has had all her test results back including her thyroid and every single extensive test is negative. In essence we have a healthy 2-year-old who has a congential/hereditary condition - official via our vet. There is no treatment. We can just hope that the hair loss wont get too extensive.

The condition is known as "seasonal alopecia".

I am going to keep surfing the net and asking folk for help. I dont like to sit down and give in!

I suppose the worst scenario is that I will have to start knitting wooly jumpers for her! Just dont like the thoughts of her lovely looks being marred by bald patches.

Thanks for all your support. If anyone hears of this condition being treated - please let me know.

Some dogs have seen results by taking melatonin for seasonal flank alopecia. You may want to give it a try, but keep in mind it take several weeks to take effect! Good luck and keep us posted :)

I don't know of a treatment, but a friend has an older Boxer bitch with it. Boxers for your Boxer should keep them warm on those chilly nights :)

It will be okay :)

Hi Aimee
I have heard of the melatonin [via the vet]. She [vet] is not keen to try it as she says there is no recommended doseage and the results are not conclusive. This is part of the research that is going on in Canada at the moment. I dont think it is available here in the UK by what the vet says.
I have written to a few folk in Canada so will keep you posted.

Ive been rubbing in oil and changed her diet to "Nutro" which seems to suit her better. How long did it take before u saw an improvement?
