Collar

I am just curious to know if other boxer owners keep a collar in their dogs at all times - even if the dog is inside the house - or if it is just used when the boxer goes for a walk.

I keep the collar on my dogs at ALL times, I do take it off when I give them baths or to change the collars since they like to get theirs muddy and messy so they usually get changed often.

Usually I keep them on the dogs all the time but lately have taken them off because the jingle of the tags wakes the baby up! So they only wear them outside!

We live in an apartment and i never keep the collar on Avra,she would wear it only during the walk

Buster always wears his collar.
firstly so I can grab him easily if the door knocks or I need to open the door
secondly his ID tag is on there

there are many other reasons why but I feel these are important.

Indy and Ava only wear their collars when they are going to be outside of the closed areas, in the house or the locked, fenced yard.

When they go for rides or walks, they always wear their collars.

All our prior dogs wore their collars at all times, but since fencing an area for Indy, the collar(s) are normally off.

There are arguments for both sides. Dogs have strangled when their collar, or the tags got snagged in a crate. Dogs have strangled, or nearly strangled when a leg of one dog has gone through the collar of another during play.

I was only made aware of this in the past couple of years, and arguments can be made about dogs that manage to escape without a collar and don't get returned.

It's a choice we each have to make.

It is nicer to be able to run your hand over them without the interference of a collar.

I would liken it to making love with your clothes on.

Sorry about the exaggeration. No, I'm not either.

The only time Boo has his collar on is for ..walks, rides, training, going to the park or public places.
Other wise its off...!

Ryker and Ozzy only wear their collars when they go outside. They stay at the front door with their leashes. My guys wear halties with straps that attack to their collars in case they come off.

Brinkley throws a fit when we his collar take off. So he keeps it on. It's funny if we take his collar he will come after us just like we would if he took your watch or something. He doesn't like running around in the nude.

Caesar is just like Brinkley--the only time he seems to get upset with us is if his collar is off. He will fight you for it back. So, he wears it all the time. I did get him a slide tag instead of a regular tag so I don't panic so much about snagging. Also, I will take it off if I see he's playing rough.
