Hi everyone ;)

I have a question. The other day I was watching one of my favorite animal shows on Animal Planet. It was Emergency Vets, and a dog was brought in who had drank her owners coffee. Needless to say she died from cardiac arrest.

I knew that dogs had issues with chocolate, but I never realized the level of toxicity for dogs when involving drinking coffee. I havent been able to find to much info on the net. If someone could let me know. My sister has a small dog who loves coffee. I told her to not let her drink no more, at least until I find out more info.

Thanks all,

Caffeine acts as a stimulant to dogs & can lead to heart acceleration and seizures.
Just like chocolate, I think it would depend on the amount of caffiene ingested & the size of the dog as to what effect it would have.
Therefore I think you'd just be best to avoid sharing your coffee with your dog. :)
Although it doesn't go into great detail this link maybe of interest.

I would also be interested in more information on this as well. Austin is pretty good as far as not steeling food, but coffee is another thing, I dare not leave a cup of coffee sitting with my back turned for a second or he is right in it. I dont understand the attachment to coffee, he doesnt attempt to drink other things I drink( water/tea/soda )
