After all the talk on here about some boxers not being very good swimmers if at all, I was concerned about how Coco would do on our float trip & vacation. I went out and bought her a life vest and it turned out we didn't need it. It was soo funny. We were all at the pool and my nephew took off in a dead run to jump into the pool and Coco was right on his heels, well...he went in and she never even stopped, just went right in after him, sunk for a moment and I kinda panicked and swam over but stopped myself to see what she would do. She came right up, paddled herself right to edge and held on with her front paws until I helped her out. Then she continued to jump in and swim. It was great and her and all 5 of the kids had the best time swimming and playing with each other. She would wait until they were all in the pool and burn around it about two or three times, picking her spot and then would just go for it. It was fantastic.

That's great!

We just found out this weekend that Tyson ( who will be 1 year on Friday) can swim. We went to the lake for the weekend and I was so scared about the water. I kept his harness on him and I walked out until he couldn't touch bottom and when his feet stopped hitting ground, they just started paddeling like he's been doing it all his life. I had been reading like you that there was a chance that he would not be able to swim, but it looks like our guys handled it like pros.

I have popped into this forum many times during the past few years and have always been surprised at the number of people who refer to Boxers being non swimmers.

I have 4 beautiful boxers ( see my photo album ) and have had Boxers for 40 years, with many contacts in the Boxer world.

Never have I had a dog that couldn't swim and in my country (UK) I have never heard of anyone who considers that Boxers can't swim.

No idea why it is said so often here. My advice to new owners is there is no reason why your dog will not swim as good as any other breed, if you could see mine a couple of hours ago you would believe me, they were in the English Channel swimming like fish.

Gasach, your boxers are beautiful! I enjoyed browsing your gallery. You sound like my husband. He told me the same thing you said when I went and spent money on a life vest. He said to me...I have never seen a dog that couldn't swim, it's natural, they have to if necessary. So....he would fully agree with you. He thought I was crazy but I was just nervous after all I had read here. I'm fine with it now and I even returned the life vest and got my money back and bought her some other more useful goodies. :)
