Chronic UTI's

Has anyone had problems with continuously recurring UTI's? Fiona had a lot of problems with her lady parts so we hoped getting her spayed would help. It's been 10 months since she was spayed and we are on her third UTI (could even be 4, I've lost track). Not sure what to do, I'm going to get some cranberry pills but there doesn't appear to be a great deal of evidence they work (I guess they can't hurt). Vet suggested changing her food but she's already on what is supposed to be high quality food. I'm at my wits end and it can't be much fun for Fiona, although the vets have said they are low grade infections and she doesn't get any symptoms like frequent urination. I can only tell it's vet time again when she gets a bit of discharge.

Just catching this. Thor had issues, and our vet said he had "girl urine". Once we added a cranberry supplement, he never had another problem. It seems I remember someone else adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to their dog's water to increase acidity. We have very hard water, so we and the dogs drink bottled water. (We use refillable 5 gallon jugs.) We bought a Primo brand dispenser off Amazon that has a pet drinking station attached. It dispenses water directly into their bowl. I hope Fiona is doing better.

I know this is an old post. My Ruby dealing with her second UTI in a few months. We are on round two of antibiotics since Dec 1, first it was amoxicillin for two weeks, retested and still uti. Now in Cipro for 2 weeks. Ughh, all these antibiotics…. She’s been on cranberry supplements with D Mannose. I just came across this post about ACV being a help. maybe I’ll try that. I just want her to be rid of this. She’s her normal boxer self except the Drinking lots and urinating.

After constant rounds of antibiotics we went to a specialist and the outcome was that she probably just had vaginitis and that the bacteria in her urine was likely just from the urine passing through the vaginal area rather than in the bladder itself. She did drink and pee a lot, but she never had that urge to pee for no reason. The main reason I thought it was a UTI was the discharge. So I have haven't treated her for UTI for about a year now and the drinking and peeing has settled down and she doesn't pee inside anymore. So it's important to be sure they definitely are UTIs. If so I can't see how ACV could hurt. They might need to keep the anti biotics up for longer if it comes back again rather than just 2 weeks.
