Lizeb, I'm sorry to hear about your George what a heart breaker. We including everyone on BW depend so much on the Vets that take care of our babies. It is very unusual for us who may take our boxers to Vets for primarily our baby’s whole life not to get a second opinion. I never had that problem with choppers vet which I needed to get a second opinion. Then again I never took chopper to the vet for which there was any underline reason where he had a health problem that needed constant attention. That's one of my biggest grips when chopper passed away. Up until his last hour of life I never had any indication under lying or whatever of any problems with him to raise any flags. I guess if I knew chopper had a problem, and I didn't feel comfortable for what his doctor was saying or finding I would without a doubt consult another vet for opinion.
For example; Chopper did have Lyme disease 2 years ago which he was just lying on the floor alert but couldn't move. This was another one of those times which I came in from work and he was just lying there. He was much more alert that time, I noticed him wagging and he wanted to get up but had swelling in his joint of his front leg. I immediately called the vet and had chopper their within minutes. They discovered through blood test he had Lyme disease gave him antibiotics and sent him home with me which he recovered quickly within days. He recovered really quick with that, which the vet did call quite a few times to check up on him.
I didn't and don't have anything bad to say about his vet which I think did a great job taking care of him.

DyckDogs, I have been doing some internet searching on; Dogs gone to heaven.
This may sound stupid to some or morbid. I've been thinking about the fact if we do and will meet up with our babies when we are gone. For the most part the idea leans more in favor that we will once again join them when we pass. This brought me to another idea and conclusion, there’s going to be a lot of boxers and other dogs there. I'm thinking I will need proof that chopper belongs to me. I created a folder for chopper which includes his AKC paper, along with other important papers. I have asked my son and daughter for when I pass-away if they would place this folder in my casket before I am buried. I told them not to say anything to their mother, she will think its stupid and when the time comes won't do what I ask. I'm thinking that I'm going to need proof that I am choppers dad. I explained to my kids that I am not going anywhere soon, that they don't need to worry about that. This is something that I ask of them when the time comes.

What do you think.......Am I getting cared away.

Thanks for that! I actually went to the vet that showed me the tumor for a long while, however they are so busy that it's hard to get them to talk to you for more then 5 minutes or so. I am one (especially now) that likes to know everything and the how's and why's too. I just had a cat of mine take the trip to the rainbow bridge this July and if it hadn't have been for the new vet (who is incidentally a scuba diving buddy of mine) I would have lost him 5 months sooner. The vet's office I used to go to (the busy one) did over $1000 worth of tests on my cat last January (2007) when he lost 10-12 lbs all of a sudden. They came back with nothing. He started drinking and peeing a lot in Feb this year but wasn't eating. So, I took him to my friend's clinic and found out he was suffering from renal failure. I couldnt' afford to leave him in the hospital for 4 days and $3K later to have his system flushed, so I asked if there was another way. They sent me home with fluids and Royal Canin Renal food and he was back to his old self in about 3-4 days. I did this for the rest of his life, and thanks to them he had 5 more months to be with us.

This vet believes in not putting an animal down unless there is nothing else that can be done...and I mean at all. They will actually have a parent sign their cat/dog/exotic animal over to their vet if they can't afford the treatment to save the animal's life. They will then find a home for that animal.

I swear by my vet now, and I am glad that I have found them. My girls will be visiting them soon as they are excited about meeting my babies.

Sorry this is so long...but the point is I agree about finding a vet that is right for you. Once you find a good one...stick to them.

I'm so glad that Chopper's Doc wasn't like George's!!!

No Bill, I don't think you're getting carried away. That is kind of a nice idea.

I really believe there is a heaven where people and animals go. And I believe that our babies will find us, and when they do find us, we will know with out a doubt it is them.
So I don't think you have to worry about it too much. Chopper will find you. After all, you were his best bud. There is and never will be another boxer exactly like Chopper. Just like there will never be another boxer exactly like Quincy.
I'm sure Chopper is having a blast right now with all the other babies at the bridge. But I'm also sure that he is watching over you now, and will be every day until you meet him again.

So when the sun sets at night, and the stars come out, look up into the sky. When you see that one star that is twinkling brightly at you, know that it is Chopper just letting you know that he is okay.

Sometimes you just have to believe.

Do dogs go to Heaven?

I found this site; http://www-hsc.usc.edu/~cypert/dick/inheaven.html

Check out some of these exerts, this one really is touching.

An old man and his dog were walking down this dirt
road with fences on both sides, they came to a gate
in the fence and looked in, it was nice - grassy,
woody areas, just what a 'hunting' dog and man would
like, but, it had a sign saying 'no trespassing' so
they walked on.

They came to a beautiful gate with a person in white
robes standing there. "Welcome to Heaven"
he said. The old man was happy and started in with his
dog following him.

The gatekeeper stopped him. "Dogs aren't allowed,
I'm sorry but he can't come with you." "What
kind of Heaven won't allow dogs? If He can't come in,
then I will stay out with him. He's been my faithful
companion all his life, I can't desert him now.
" "Suit yourself, but I have to warn you,
the Devil's on this road and he'll try to sweet talk you
into his area, he'll promise you anything, but, the dog can't
go there either. If you won't leave the dog, you'll
spend Eternity on this road " So the old man and
dog went on.

They came to a rundown fence with a gap in it, no gate,
just a hole. Another old man was inside. "Scuse me Sir,
my dog and I are getting mighty tired, mind if we come in
and sit in the shade for awhile?" "Of course, there's
some cold water under that tree over there. Make yourselves
comfortable " "You're sure my dog can come in?
The man down the road said dogs weren't allowed
anywhere." "Would you come in if you had to leave
the dog?" " No sir, that's why I didn't go to
Heaven, he said the dog couldn't come in. We'll be spending
Eternity on this road, and a glass of cold water and some
shade would be mighty fine right about now. But, I won't
come in if my buddy here can't come too,
and that's final. "

The man smiled a big smile and said "Welcome to Heaven."
"You mean this is Heaven? Dogs ARE allowed? How come that
fellow down the road said they weren't?" "That was the
Devil and he gets all the people who are willing to give up a life
long companion for a comfortable place to stay.
They soon find out their mistake, but, then it's too late.
The dogs come here, the fickle people stay there.
GOD wouldn't allow dogs to be banned from Heaven. After all,
HE created them to be man's companions in life, why would he
separate them in death?"

The Twilight Zone

Really is true, once we are reunited with them. Who would think we would be asked to leave them behind just to enter heaven. As I said if I could go back in time and live with chopper I would to relive his life. And if I meet him again on my way to heaven who would even ask that I must leave him behind to enter heaven for I don't think anyone on BW once reunited would even think to do that.
