Chopper's last vet bill.

Well today I paid chopper's last vet bill. The bill was for his cremation that took place. It seemed very weird as I stood in the vet. I guess because I usually would be in their with chopper normally, trying to balance holding him on a leash and trying to sign a credit card statement. I left with not knowing what to say to them, I wanted to thank them for sending my the sympathy card, and I wanted to thank them all for looking after chopper during his normal exams and just in general. I just couldn't stay in their very long, was very uncomfortable for me. I started to get flash-backs of that day, and what actually but me over was when I saw the doctor who was his examiner that day (8/18), I couldn't even look at her. I just had to get out, and I had to get out of their fast.
It was his last bill as I said, and maybe the last time I would be in that vet hospital.
I'm sorry about keeping this tread alive, it does feel good to express the pain through this thread since it was created the day chopper passed-away. It does give me heeling since it is a way to express my feelings.

Thanks Again for reading.......
Bill

You don't have to be sorry about keeping this going. It helps to be able to share your feelings and emotions over your loss.
That is what all of us, your boxer friends, are for. We'll be here to support you (and anyone else) who are grieving and just need someone to listen.

I could not go to the vet's office to pick up Quincy's ashes. My DH had to go. He brought back the urn along with the blanket Quincy had been laying on when he died. Quincy had been wrapped in it when I left the vets so I had not taken it with me.
When my DH brought it into the house, I help it up to my face and just breathed in to see if I could still smell my Quincy on the blanket. But I couldn't.
The blanket will never be used again, but will always be stored safely in our home.

Please feel free to post anytime you need to remember your Chopper or are just plain having a bad day. There are a bunch of us who are always here to read your posts and hopefully you will know how much all your BW friends really care.

i can certainly understand how you feel. With Markus I had to pay for everything the day they put him to sleep. It wasn't easy. :( I did have to go back and pick up the ashes. Will you not have to go and pick up Chopper's ashes? You could always express your thanks then or alternatively you could send a card.

Take care!

I had not opt to have Chopper's ashes. I was kinda asked this while he was lying their on the table. At that point I didn't know what to do, so I just told them to handle this. I was given many different choices which were; I could have left him their for up to 3 days until I made a decision, I could have taken him home and handled it on my own with how I wanted him buried, I could have had him cremated and taken the ashes, or have him just cremated along with others that would be done together. I will send them a card of thanking them.
I wasn't thinking at the time, I was wondering what I would do with his ashes if I did get opt for them. He had his backyard which was like his paradise, I guess I could have spread them all over back their. But, to be honest I just didn't know what to do at that time.

Thanks DyckDogs for the encouragement, as thoughts do come to my mind I will express them about chopper here. Which today since HANNA (hurricane) is knocking at my door brings to mind the times chopper would be on guard patrol. The wind and the trees moving would always have him spooked which he thought always either someone was at the front door or walking around out front, he would just gaze and look out the windows and he new he didn't want any parts of that bad weather. He would hold himself for as long as he could so that he didn't have to go out to do his duty in the rain and bad weather. Even if you tried to get him to go pee/poo and call him to go out he would just look at you with those eyes and just turn away as to say, "yeah right, you go out their". He was amazing with his facial and body gestures.

Thanks
Bill

I am sure that when you were at the vets you were more or less in a state of shock. So many things going through your mind, probably mostly disbelief that this had really happened.
When they asked me if I wanted Quincy cremated, I told them I would call them back. I just couldn't really comprehend what they were telling me. I just had to get the heck out of there.
It's too bad that they don't give you some time to think about it. I was told I had to call them back that afternoon to let them know.

Yes, boxers are very expressive. That is what I love the most about them. My favourite look is when they hear something new and tilt their head sideways trying to figure out what it is.
And of course, there is nothing more beautiful than a boxers eyes.

I am sure that Chopper will always be watching over you from the bridge. Even though they are physically gone, I believe that their soul and their spirit live on and will always touch us in some way.

Keep safe from the hurricane. Hope it doesn't cause too much damage.

I'm new to BW (just signed up yesterday), but have been a boxer fan since 1992. I had a B&G Macaw at the time and went into a pet store to p/u food for it when I first saw him. He was the cutest puppy I had ever seen. The store attendant asked me if I wanted to play with him, and of course I said yes. He kissed me with that big 4 month old spoon tongue and looked at me with those beautiful chocolate eyes and well...he left with me and my bird food that day! LOL That was how George entered our family.

He was my dog, not DH's, not my Mom's or Grandmother's, but mine. George was 100% loyal to me. Though he liked to play with DH. We had him in our lives until 2003 when he lost weight and became skin and bones. I of course took him to our vet (which I couldn't be paid to go to today) and spent 100's of dollars having him tested for everything. They said that he had a virus. Well, the day came where he could no longer walk and he looked up me with those beautiful brown eyes gave me one last kiss and let me know that it was time. I called my vet (at that time) to let them know and they wouldn't stay open until I got there (I lived 45 minutes away from their office). So, I had to take him to a closer clinic that stayed open later in the evening. The tech that came in to stay with us while George took his journey to the Rainbow Bridge said that he had cancer. I was of course shocked...I had spent tons of money and numerous trips to the other vet to have a tech take one look at him and tell me what was wrong. I of course kick myself for not going there sooner, but that only makes me cry when I think about it! Anyway, the tech let me feel the softball sized tumor (that the other vet should have caught) after George was gone. I, unfortunately, was not given the option of having George cremated. I wish I had been, because lord knows he'd still be here with me today.

I'm so sorry that your Chopper was taken from you so suddenly! Reading your thread has brought back so many memories and the tears with them.

We, my two new pups and I, send lots of healing wishes to you and yours.

Lizeb, what a sad story. How shocked you must have been to find out along along it had been cancer, and possibly something that could have been treated if it had been diagnosed sooner.

My sister is going through the same type of situation with her boxer right now. There is something wrong, all she wants to do is sleep and eat. Not normal for her (or any boxer). She is very weak/sore on her back legs. My sister has spent 100's of dollars, Kiza has gone through so many test to rule different things out, and they still don't know what is going on.

I am so happy I decided to get Quincy's ashes. They are in a beautiful urn with a gold chain holding a gold medalion (spelling?) that says his name. I am looking at it now as I type this.

Sorry for your loss of George.

I am sure George, Chopper and Quincy are running free at the bridge. They are gone but definately will never be forgotten.

Definately not forgotten! You know when ever I see a boxer that looks just like my George did (like Haiduc...the little cutie!) it gets me every time.

So, though we did get a new Fawn pup, she looks nothing like George did. Not trying to replace him because that could never happen...just trying to fill that boxer void. I love the breed and couldn't wait until I had room (yard) enough to have another one.

Gosh, just think about all the great animals that are at the bridge. Talk about a play party!!! I bet that had a HUGE bash when the Crocodile Hunter came through! ;o)~

Hats off to our babies...we'll always love them and never forget them! Until we meet again...
