Spoke to the Chinese Herbalist. She has never had any dogs reacting to the herbs, other than mild diarrhea. Her gut feeling is that Luna is not allergic to the herbs, but is reacting strongly to something environmental. So, the herbal treatment is to resume and continue.
She is going to have a conference with my regular vet to decide some sort of concurrent conventional treatment, to support Luna while she is going through this bad episode. She feels that once Luna's present dramatic allergic response settles, the herbs will be able to gradually take effect on her system and do their job.

So, now waiting to hear back.

Feeling hopeful.

Well, we have gone from thinking they were not working and that she was reacting negatively ..... to being completely itch free ... and I mean COMPLETELY :))) .... for the past 14 hours, 11 minutes ... and counting.

I am SO excited, and hopeful ..... but cautious of daring to hope that they are working. If they are ... then this is absolutely incredible !

That is wonderful!! I really hope this continues. Am keeping my fingers crossed for you & Luna and will ask Mr Tucker to please cross his paws also. :)

unhappy momma

Well, firstly, Luna is back to scratching and biting, albeit not as incessant as she used to. We had a good 24 hours plus where she was completely asymptomatic .... then gradually over the weekend the itchiness increased. I am disappointed, but I kind of expected it .... just seemed too "easy" a fix.

What I didn't expect was the herbalist vet's reaction ! ... and it has me really upset .... and angry, actually. I emailed her on Friday evening to update her, basically saying the same as I said to you guys. On Monday she replied ... and I quote :

" I find it incredulous that any dog could suddenly become itch free overnight, so it begs me to question the validity of what you are telling me. Are you concerned about the Atopica ? "

She has practically accused me of telling lies !

I wrote back to say that incredulous as it may seem, I did not fabricate it, and have no ulterior motives when it comes to my dog's well-being ..... and left it at that. I will not be returning to her, BUT I can continue the herbs as it is a rotating prescription that I can just pick up from the vet pharmacy.

I am puzzled though, why Luna should have made such a dramatic improvement , to then go backwards again. Anyone with allergic dogs find that this sometimes happens ?

I cannot believe the vet basically accused you of lying!!! WOW.

I don't know anything about allergies so no help to offer but did you notice anything about the weather the good day? Was it less windy or more humid or anything that might keep allergens from coming into your property? Seems a bit far fetched but pulling at straws here! Anyway I am glad the herbs are at least helping her.
