Just got this FDA release and thought I would post it here. I signed up several months ago to receive these email alerts when there are recalls or alerts from the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administation). It is actually pretty cool, cause you get a lot of info on pet food and medicine, as well as human products. It was free and anybody can do it. Anyway here is the link about the chicken jerky treats causing illness in dogs http://www.fda.gov/cvm/CVM_Updates/ComplaintsChicJerky.htm

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! I buy chicken jerky from Costco. The only ingredient is chicken & it says in big letters on the bag the company name & RENO, NEVADA so I thought they were safe. Well after seeing this post I looked at the bag again and in small letters it says “MADE IN CHINA”. I am so mad. My dogs LOVE these treats. Obviously I won’t feed them any more and now that I think of it I have found some diarrhea in the yard since I have fed these treats.

I used to give them to my dogs too. They used to get a half a one a day before bed. I haven't bought them in a while as I was concerned that they were made in China. :( It sounds like the FDA hasn't been able to find anything wrong with them and there is no proof that they are causing any problems. It is probably better to err on the side of caution and not feed them until they have been proven safe.

Thank you for this information. I printed out the notice and brought it and an open bag of the jerky back to the TSC store. They gave me back my money no problem and thanked me for bringing this to their attention. I thought I'd been careful as it says product of Canada, but underneath that, it said made in China. I will check more carefully from now on.

I just started feeding these to my dogs as treats when we got our puppy. Two of them have had chronic diarrhea since then---now I can pinpoint the origin. I'm throwing them out today.

My friend's Boxer is 9 and gets these all day--he recently stopped eating and the vet cannot figure out why. He's lost 10 lbs. I need to pass this on. Thanks for info.
