I just got home last night after being in Oregon for a week. Hubby was giving me the run-down on how Chewy and Stella have been doing. Well, then he showed me a new lump/bump thingy that he found on Chewy. It's on his right shoulder, and it's pretty small, but I think we should get it looked at. I'd say it's about the size of a bb, and I can feel half of it below the skin, and half above the skin. It doesn't look like a pimple. I'm a little concerned about it, so I guess I'd better go call the vet now....

Please keep Chewy in your prayers. Thanks.

:( poor Chewy. Hopefully it's just a bug bite or a little irritation. Brighid and Bud send lots of slurps and wiggles to Chewy and Stella ;).

Don't Panic!
I just had Dixie's Vet take a look at a couple of those on her yesterday when she went back for her jaw bone checkup.
What you are describing sounds exactly like the same thing she has on her.
Luckily, the vet said it is absolutely nothing to worry about. He said the ones that Dixie have are tiny cysts that usually start from a hair folicle. He said nothing needed to be done, that they usually don't get much bigger than a pea. He said if it did get larger, they could be drained or removed if we chose to do so.
Of course I was scared to death when I discovered them, especially with all that she has already been through. But, thank God....everything was alright!! :D

Keep us posted.
Hopefully it isn't anything at all to worry about!

Our thoughts are with you and Chewy. Chances are it is a simple bump and nothing to worry about. Susie gets "injury" bumps when Maggie bites her too hard or she runs into the shrubs and brush on the trail or at the beach. They look much worse than they are and they do go away. But I do notice that they seem to take their sweet time going away sometimes.

Good luck. Be brave. I'm sure it will be just fine.

lump

Last year I had ten, yes ten, of these lumps removed from Obie. One inside his ear, and nine small ones from his scalp.
Doc said that, of course, Boxers are prone to 'tumors', but if they are caught quickly enough, and monitored, most are harmless.

I would try not to worry too much.

Thanks everyone. I'm not too worried - just don't like any bumps on my kids! We have an "every weird bump gets checked" policy. It's not a pimple, and it's not like any bug bite I've ever seen. It's also not like an "injury" bump - I've seen zillions of those! ;) This bump is not like a gradually raising bump that's kind of subtle. It's like it's just shooting straight out of his skin. Looks like a smaller version of a bump that our old foster, Henry, had removed last year. They biopsied his, and it was nothing.

Anyway, Chewums has an appt for Friday afternoon, so we'll see what the doc says. Thanks again! :)

It could also be fat deposits ;) (usually would have to be near a gland, though).

Cheyenne has had three histiocytomas removed in the course of two years - one just a couple of months ago. They all were nothing to worry about, but they caused us plenty of worry! (Especially the last one because they had to give her a local and cut her open - the others were taken care of with shots.)

I'm sure he will be fine, but it's definitely better to be on the safe side!

I agree, don't panic. But it is hard not too worry about these boxers. Sending positive vibes to Chewy~~~~~~~~~~~~~ and hope it is nothing to worry about. I am currently watching a small bump (size of a pea) on Ginger under a mole on her face. I have read somewhere about cysts under the hair follicle. I am just keeping a close eye on my girl, if it gets bigger than of course, she will go to the vet. Sometimes as quick as the lumps appear they disappear. Keep us updated with Chewy. Ginger sends him a big kiss.
