mm mmmm good

I went to see it yesterday and it was GREAT!!! at first i was a little scared thinking what the heck did I just bring these kids to see, but it all turned out to be wonderful!! I don't think anyone could have played Willy Wonka better than Johnny Depp. whoo hoo! I would recomend it to anyone who has got a good imagination and ... "is a little weird"

I am a huge fan of Willy Wonka and the Choc Factory orginal. I have the movie and have seen it at least 100 times, no kidding. So when I heard that a new version was being made I was a little iffy. I haven't had the chance to see the movie yet. I may go this week and check it out. I know it can't possibly be as good as the original just because the original is well, the original. I heard that when casting the show Marilyn Manson was considered for Willy Wonka's role. Creepy huh? I read an article that interviewed the orginal Charlie and he refused to say anything about the movie. I will be watching this movie though.

I was thinking about taking my son. He is almost 6. Anyone take their kids?

I took my two yr old son and my 7 yr old daughter. My son had not had a nap and was asleep in 15 min, fine with me! I got to seee the movie with no potty breaks!
My 7 yr old daughter loved it, and so did my 8 yr old neice.

What is it rated? I was thinking about taking my son. He is almost 6. Anyone take their kids? I think I would rather go see that than Shark Boy and Lava Girl..... :)

My friend here is the asst mgr of one of the movie theaters, so we had a late-nite showing the night before it opened (we "preview" to make sure there are no problems with the films themselves, etc). I took my 8.5 yr old who loved it.

It is NOT a remake of the other movie, unlike some say. It is another adaptation of the same book. SO - there are many similarities, but there are quite a few differences too.

Johnny Depp is not Gene Wilder, and didn't try to be. Both have their own quirks and strengths in front of a camera, which is apparent here. AND, let's face it - anything Tim Burton has a hand in is a bit.....well......warped. I think that man had a very unhappy childhood or something.....lol.

I loved the Gene Wilder adaptation, and I love this one too. Yes, the recent incarnation of Willy Wonka is a bit more "off", but it is the smugness and facial expressions that help make the character. Not being a huge Depp fan, I would say this is one of his better movies of late.

The Depp one includes the family more than the first one. The endings are different. The Wilder one, while entertaining, doesn't compare when it comes to the special effects.

I think a 6 yr old could handle the Depp one. I don't know that I would recommend it for children much younger though.

I think the new movie is more closer to the book. I believe in the book, it was squirrels with nuts but in the first movie it was the golden geese. I enjoyed it anyway and a bunch of kids at the camp I work at have seen it and they liked it.

"Everything here is edible, including me, but that children would be cannibalism and that is frowned upon"

I liked it... it was different in the sense that it wasn't a musical per say like the first one. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't have wanted to see Johnny Depp belt out tunes like Wonka in the first one, just wouldn't have worked. The only musical parts were the umpa loompa's, and their songs were funny, and not the same as before at all. I liked it overall.
Johnny Depp is sexy no matter if he looks like a girl, a dirty pirate, a guy with scizzors for hands... you name it, he's hot!!!
The kid who played Charley and his Grandpa were perfect for the part!
And Veruca Salt's part was right on too.... little brat!!

My best friend said it was terrible. She said that they had Johnny Depp looking like a twisted Michael Jackson (weird face paint and hair). I haven't seen it, I'll probably wait for the video.

he was supposed to look creepy! have you read the book? the book was seriously creepy, roald dahl is a freaky writer. personally, i thought that it was a very sophisticated level of creepy - it wasn't the kind of creepy that would give children nightmares, but it was the kind of creepy that gives adults (and teenagers, i suppose - i'm 15 ;) ) the chills.

i loved it. the creepiness was absolutely perfect.

johnny......

I have had a major crush on Johnny Depp ever since he was played the cop on 21 Jump Street. Anyone remember that show. He costarred with Dom Delouise's son?

Anyway I have seen most of his movies and I love them all. But then I AM A LITTLE WARPED also. Loved What's eating Gilbert Grape, Edward Scissorhands, Bennie and June, And Pirates of the Carribean, and looking forward to the sequels.

Have not seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory yet but plan on taking the kids tomorrow.

Anyway Love that Johnny Depp............
