Things have gone pretty good today so far. Both of them are off leash in the house together. They are in all of our rooms. Of course Duke being so old, likes to sleep, a lot--lol! They are sleeping together on the ortho beds as I type. I think this helps keep her calm in the house somewhat. She follows him and seems to imitate him somewhat. She still plays like a puppy though but isn't wild, yet anyway, in the house.

So I thought I would try off leash out in the backyard today. Anyway, she was running around outside like crazy (you know, boxer stuff) and she leapt into the air and went flying into Duke, hard. He let her know real fast that wasn't a good idea, no snapping or biting, but a very strong growl that he meant business. So she gingerly approached him and I think she knew what she did maybe wasn't a good idea. So I thought maybe I had better put her leash back on outside, which I did. So I am thinking maybe not quite ready for off leash outside in the backyard. I do let her out by herself too off leash to burn some of that boxer energy off. I just don't want Duke to think she is "prey" and I want to keep it as positive as I can. At least off leash in the house is going very good. I know I probably need to get her off leash with Duke for outside soon. What do you guys think??

Don't worry -- Duke isn't going to think she's prey. He knows she's a puppy, and I think he handled it very well. His growl is telling her that no, she can't do that. I would continue monitor them, but let her off lead with him too, unless she is really annoying him. Though because he's so dominant, I think she'll probably catch on very fast, and learn to let him be. He'll tell her what she needs to know -- he's being a very good big brother! They are so adorable! And don't be afraid to trust Duke -- he's doing all the right things to help her grow up with some manners. :) Just keep a close eye and don't forget: we want more pictures! ;) LOVE those puppy and big brother photos!

Dee Dee Duke update

Just wanted to give an update on how it is going here. Duke was getting really really upset and not in a good way with her puppy stuff. I had a trainer on another site that I am on tell me that I needed to do something about it otherwise he would take care of it for me. So they are not separated in the house (no gates up) but she is tethered to me most of the time during the day and outside in the backyard. They nap together, have walks together (side by side a lot) and they do interact. But I do not allow her to get in his face and do the puppy stuff--he HATES it. She has her puppy time to play, but it is with me or my husband or both of us. She does her boxer burns out in the back when Duke is not out there. Duke is allowed his space and he does need it. We have a big covered screened in deck very much like a sunroom and we go out there in the afternoon and they have together time then too and it is usually very good. But if the puppy play starts with Duke she gets corrected with "Leave It" and a slight tug on her leash. Both of them seem to enjoy that out there. Duke lets me know when he has had enough and wants to go in the house. This is going to take time for him to accept this, I think he has started a little as he washed her face and ears yesterday so that is a good sign. But we couldn't live with the vicious growls and snapping that was starting. We have not had any growls or anything like that for the last several days, maybe a week or so. It is going here guys, but it is going to take time, plus I give constant supervision and she is told "Leave it" if she starts with Duke. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow that we have had her. Just going to take time plus I need to do the best I can to keep it positive for Duke and her too.

I also signed her up for puppy class. Hope we are able to get in. Should find out soon.
