Car suggestions anyone

Our consumer affairs guru in Atlanta, Clark Howard, rates the Land Rover as one of the worst cars you can purchase, bc of the repair costs and the fact that they seem to be constantly broken down, and they apparently do not keep any resale value. I don't have personal experience though; that's just what he says.

I have a Nissan Xterra, and I love it. The gas mileage isn't great, but as far as the seating and room, it's wonderful. I take my friend's kids (babies) around quite a bit, and the car seats go in and out very easily because there is stadium style seating, where the back seats are higher than the front so the kids can see out really easily. And the dogs go in the back...

Most of the time I drive our Durango. It fits the dogs nicely, has room in the back seat, plus the V8 gives it the power. It is a '99, not sure yet if I like the looks of the new Durangos.
I also love the new Subaru Outbacks. The safety features are incredibleand the price seems fair.

My wife and I are also looking into a new SUV because hers is a two door and we are about to have a baby so I would like to get her something with four doors so it will be easier on her. Here are the choices I like and why.
Ford Explorer- fords are love or hate usually but they seam to have pleanty of room and they have the optional 3rd row seating. They also usually lead the truck market and the SUV is usually at the top as well or close too. I guess it all depends on whose reports you look on for that but I have been pretty impressed lately. Plus they have high resale values when it comes to suvs and trucks.
Toyota 4 Runner- size is pretty good, a little smaller than what I would like but big enough. Toyotas last forever as long as you do proper maintainene(oil change, belts, etc.) They are pretty good on gas for an SUV and everyone who gets one loves it, you wont see very many people who have one disapointed with it.
Nissan Xterra- Nissan's SUV and trucks have improved greatly in the past few years. The Xterras are relatively cheap and are a good bang for the buck with all the different packages you can get on it. The stadium seating will be a hit with the kids and its really not all that cramped in the back.
Nissan Pathfinder- The new pathfinders look awesome to me. I haven't had the chance to see one up close yet cause they just came out but you can get good deals on them right now and if they are anything like what Nissan had put in its new Titan and Armada then look for great things out of this SUV.
NISSAN ARMADA- This is my number 1 choice, my wife thinks its to big though. I have a Titan, Nissans first attempt at a full size truck. Well let me tell you they went above and beyond my expectations. I was dead set on getting an F150 but when I looked at a Titan on my way to the Ford dealer I changed my mind. More for the money and a great truck all together. Its got a 5.6 litre engine. More horsepower than almost any other truck and more torque than most trucks. They have more doodads and pockets than I know what to do with. The truck absolutly caters to the drive and its passangers. The reason I tell you all this about the Titan is because the Armada and the Titan are very similar, they have the same drivetrains and share a lot of charectoristics. Definitly worth looking into. They are about the size of a Tahoe and I in my opinion they are better quality, no offense to those who drive tahoes, I like them as well but I think the Nissan's look more sturdy and better built. I know you were looking at used but this might be worth the extra money and you can usually get good deals through Nissan.
Chevy Suburban- Definitly has the reputation and experience behind its back. They are big, accomidating and with the number of them on the street they are easy to get parts for. The only thing I dont like with GM vehicles, (I say this because I work at a parts store and we install batteries and other items that only take a few minutes to install) they make it near imposible to work on. On some GM vehicles you have to remove the windsheild washer fluid resivoir just to get to the battery. That also makes it hard to jump if your battery ever dies. That might be something DH might want to look at. Another down side of GM is that they make so many vehicles that the value isnt as good as others like Ford when it comes to resale. I know some of this sounds bias but I have a Nissan truck, a GMC Jimmy, and a Ford Mustang, so you can see I am not brand loyal.
These are just my opinions on the vehicles that sound like they might work well. I know others opinions are different and if anything I said bothered you I am sorry.
