I hope I'm in the right thread...? Anyway, 2 out of the past 6 times we've driven more than 30 minutes with Riley (our now 6 1/2 month old boxer) he's thrown up in the car. The other 4 times he hasn't he has had "his bed" with him in the car. So I'm thinking it's the bed that helps him not get sick. Is that car sickness, or just nervousness? He's also dealing with separation anxiety, so maybe he's more prone to anxiety in general...

(we let him on the seat while driving, crate is out of the question in teh car, looking into a seatbelt for safety)

is this something he may outgrow? or should we just always plan on hauling his big ole bed in the car when driving long distances (fine but a nuisance)?

Cassius used to get car sick randomly like that in the car too when she was a puppy. She is now going to be 2 in August and has since outgrown her carsickness. I think it has a lot to do with weight, I am not sure how much your little one weighs, but she is still only about 45 pounds but has adjusted to the car. For a while she wasn't ready for the turns and now I watch her lean into the turns in the car when she is up and not sleeping. Also, I have a seatbelt for her. It gets wrapped around the regular seatbelt in the car and then I attach it to her harness that goes around and under the shoulders for safety so she doesn't get through around as much. It still does happen every once in a while though. Watch your feeding times too, maybe he did not digest his food enough. Although, Kayla my other boxer has no problem at all and eats right before she gets in the car. I think he will out grow it. But I would look into the seatbelt option. Hope this helps.

Lambeau got carsick as a puppy in the backseat! So, we had to drive with him in the front seat all the time. What a pain...that meant one of us had to sit in the back! I know people probably thought we were crazy, letting the dog up front instead of the other person! Anyway, now he does fine in the backseat. We do buckle him in now and we were not before. I think this contributes to him not being sick b/c he can't move around so much and the car doesn't throw him from place to place. Who knows...maybe he outgrew it...but the point is, he doesn't get sick anymore. Maybe it was outgrown, maybe it was the seatbelt...
Maybe his bed keeps him in one spot and so his tummy doesn't get so sick...? Just a thought...

Metal gets carsick every once in a while. It's not often so it's hard to determine why he is throwing up but it doesn't seem to phase him any. As for the seat belt... we have one for Metal and for Magnolia and it works great to keep them from flying all over the place and still being able to see whats going on and it gives them just enough room to poke their noses out of the window. I use "Walk n' Ride" and it works great. I found it works best for me because i don't have room for 2 crates in my car and i can still feel safe about taking the pups with me on rides! Good luck

I can just picture that.....passing a car on the highway and husband is driving with his dog next to him and wife in the backseat or vice versa. The things we do for our furkids!! :)
