So so very sorry to hear the news of the return. Ms. Cookie is a very strong & courageous doggie to have already shared 13 1/2 yrs with you & she will remain to be strong for you as long as she physically can. Why am I telling you this?! You KNOW the "healing" powers animals are able to have with humans & how they sense the "hurt" even if it is mental. I am sure she knows you will do all you can within your ability to help make her comfortable, safe and peaceful. Baby Rascal & I send lots of rolls & tumbles, prayers and hugs for the both of you. Remember, we are always here to "chat" if you need to.
Take care & baby Rascal sends Ms. Cookie a great big baby slobber!

Miracles DO happen!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all your thoughts and prayers.

Cookie visited the neurologist on Tuesday. He was very nice, and shared with me that he grew up with Boxers (never less than 3 at a time!), his parents grew up with Boxers, and his GRANDPARENTS grew up with Boxers! I knew she was in good hands. Before I left her with him, he told me he suspected either a tumor in her brainstem, or one under her tongue somewhere. She was anesthetized for a thorough oral exam and CT scan. After the CT scan, the doctor called me and said, "Sometimes I enjoy being wrong. This is one of those times."

On Cookie's CT, they found no tumors anywhere between her nose and her shoulders, no evidence of stroke, and no inner ear disease. What they DID find was extensive scarring of her temporomandibular joints that was restricting her jaw movement enough that they had a hard time getting her endotracheal tube in. So, while she was still anesthetized, they worked her mouth open and closed until the scar tissue broke down and they could get it all the way open. At this point the neurologist is calling her facial nerve paralysis idiopathic, which can occasionally happen in old dogs.

So, my miracle dog does it again, with the help of LOTS of thoughts and prayers.

I am sitting at work with tears rolling down my face. I am so happy for you! I read the start of this thread with a knot in my stomach fearing for the worst as I scrolled through the messages. I am so extremely relieved to hear that it was not cancer.

I was looking through your pictures and Cookie has such a sweet and loving face. She looks like she has had a very happy life--full of your family's love. My yorkie is about 12 1/2 years old and I know I get so nervous about his health--he recently got a respiratory infection and I was so worried that it was something more serious. I know you treasure each and every day with your Cookie . . . everyday I hear Eddie's "yapping" :) I am thankful he is still with me.

God bless you Cookie--may you have many more happy years.
