Can you guys tell any behavioral differences between male and female boxers? My male is the sweetest and most playful one, but he doesn't seem to like men very much. My female is affectionate, just not as much, but she's like that with everyone. Other females I've had seems to have been more loving than the males...does it just depend on the personality of the specific dog?
I've heard of alot of male dogs that prefer women to men...I wonder if the same goes for some females, they prefer men to women? Just thought I'd ask everyone's own experiences...I'm getting a new puppy soon and I'm not sure if I want a male or female yet...:p

Absolutely.

Harley doesn't seem to have a preference, he just loves everyone.

Male/female pairings are ideal (or so I've heard), but many have 2 males or 2 females who get along fine.
I've heard the worst pairings would be of two females.

In my experience, males are more laid back in temperament and are more affectionate. With males, what you see is what you get. Females tend to be a bit more moody and oftens times much scrappier, IMO. My females tend to dole out love on their terms unlike my male who stands ready and waiting for attention at all times. My previous male was the same way. I do believe a lot of it depends on each individual dog, but there are some characteristics of each sex that I think remains true throughout the majority.

I really wish they could talk to us:p

Do you think your males may be sweeter to you b/c your a woman?

My male is much more loving than my female. Madison decides when she wants loving and lets you know when she is done. Carson would rest his head on my shoulder for the rest of his life if I would let him.

However, Carson does not like men. He is afraid of them for some odd reason. He has never been afraid of my son or my father but any other male he will run from and hide.

This is funny because when I adopted Spencer, the first male dog I have ever owned, I asked a similar question. When I first brought him home, I found him to be exceptionally lovey and I too was wondering if it was a boy/girl thing or if it was a personality thing.

Geesh, my Spencer is something else! He's over 70lbs and has to be sitting ON you or touching you at all times. My favorite is when I drive, he'll lay his head on my arm and wrap his paws around my arm that's resting on the arm rest and just lean into me, snuggly boy!

THIS IS SO FUNNY!

My family just added Shayna before Christmas and she is now almost 4 months old. Micah (my male) who is 1 1/2 years follows me from room to room no matter how tired he is. He never does this to my husband. When it is time for bed, my husband gets in, he stands there, he waits like clockwork until i get in and under the covers befor he gets up on the bed (even if my husband calls him up there). Then he has to lay on my side even if there is more room on my husbands side. Sometimes he will squeez in between us if he feels my husband is laying to close to me. He is very gentle with me and acts as if he wants to be involved in everything I'm doing. omg he is my baby!
Now our female we have had for almost two months now is completely opposite. She pays us both the same amount of attention, we cant tell that she prefers either one of us, but it's the amount of attention. She comes when she feels like it and dosnt stay long. We crave being close with her but she keeps her distance and plays with Micah or her toys. She will sleep in the bed sometimes but she would rather be somewhere else playing. She also is more aggresive which has worried me. I'm just not used to it because of Micah. When the two of them play she sounds like a rabid pit-bull. It's scary sometimes. She's half his size. He lays there on his back letting her do whatever. She's never hurt him though. She also has snarled at my 6 year old once. Just last night (we've had a really bad winter storm here this week) my husband was drying off her feet at the door and she acted as if she was going to snap or bite him but her teeth never touched him. I dont know if she was just playing or not. It has concerned me though. She's never showed aggression towards me. But it's like she came on in and is trying to lay down the law! This has presented us with a whole new set of challenges. Micah would rather die than ever hurt anybody's feelings. I quess I will have to wait and see how she turns out since she's still young. But if anyone else has delt with this and found anything that works with pups that like to show there butts please let us know!
