Can they ban dogs in condos?

I was wondering if anyone may know if they can ban dogs in condos? The community I live in has sent out letters saying they are going to ban dogs!The reason being...people not cleaning up behind their pets! I believe this is VERY unfair to those of us who do clean up behind their pets! And I have vented on here before about people not cleaning up behind their animals. Can they do this? I mean, each individual unit is purchased not rented, unless it's rented from the owner, it's not like you are renting an apartment. I just hate the thought of having to move....again....for something I have done...I clean up after my pets! And me giving up my boys is NOT an option! BTW...this is in Charlotte, NC...I don't know if anyone may know laws in this area. Thanks for any thoughts! And for letting me vent!

Yes, I believe they can, but I know here if they did it here, the grandfather clause would come into effect. People that had dogs would be able to keep them, but if they died they wouldn't be able to replace them.

May be you could get all dog owners together and get everyone to commit to cleaning up after their pets. Here if we don't clean up after of dogs, the fines start at $50.00 and go up. These are fines applied by out strata council not the city. Does your condo have something like that in place?

This is why I would never buy a condo. If I'm going to buy I'm going to do as I please.

Thanks for the responses everyone...I rent my condo, and I've put a call in to the guy who own's it, to see what can be done. I am praying at this point it's a scare tactic! But my landlord does have other properties, so if this comes true (he's a great guy) I am almost positive that he'll let me relocate to another one of his places....but I really don't want to do that! I was hoping to stay here until I can buy my own place...a house...and that will "hopefully" be around August.My dad is going to help me...as long as I don't take my ex-bf back, so if I have to move before then...maybe he'll help me sooner!

But what is really funny, it seems that most of the people who don't pick up after their dogs have very small dogs. Do they think because it's smaller, that it's not poop? But anyway, I noticed people who NEVER clean up after their dogs, well, they were cleaning up today!I know the lady who is heading up this "ban"...all she has wanted all along, was for people to clean up behing their animals.I don't blame her for that...because I want it too!I noticed at the parks here...they have a permanent station that has poop bags for people with dogs.I am going to talk to her and see if we could install something like that here...just to give a little helping hand to those who don't want to pick up!

But ya'll just send me some positive vibes, because I don't want to move again (just moved here in July) until I am buying!
