Hi,

I am Cats from the Netherlands and would like to discuss the following casus:

My 9 year old Boxer is suffering from a serious form of rheumatoïd arthritis in the back. She is of course in a lot of pain. My vet precribed Metacam Oral Suspension (Meloxicam 1.5 mg/ml).
NSAID's like Metacam are known to potentially cause gastro-intestinal side effects in dogs (like in humans).

For human use there is a NSAID called Arthrotec (diclofenacnatrium + misoprostol 200 mg) availible specially designed to decrease the risk of these GI-side effects!

My question is wether anybody has any experience with this drug in the use of dogs?

Thx for your reactions in beforehand,

regards

I'm not familiar with Arthrotec. The best thing would be to ask your vet. They should know whether it is okay for dogs. I have had my boxer on Metacam for the last couple of years due to arthritis in his spine (spondylosis). It does seem to make him more comfortable and hasn't caused any side effects. I do give him a lesser dose than is suggested.

Good luck!
