I am thinking about getting a 16 months old female boxer that is called bouncer, but the problem is my parents have a dog called Bouncer and I don't really want to have 2 dogs in my life called Bouncer.

Is it to mean to change her name at this age?

How should I do it?

Its not a big deal to change a dogs name.. Do you have a pet name you call the dog besides bouncer.. if so start right there.. if the dog responds to a nickname.. changing the dogs name shouldnt be a problem.. good luck

Shouldn't be a problem renaming a dog. Many dogs in shelters or rescue come in and no one really knows their names.

I think it is great you are considering an older dog. :)

Sure why not

My dog is just a puppy. but he was named King Rex for the first few days... he has now graduated to Zander and my 4 year old autistic daughter stilll calls him Rex but he comes to both.

I think the shelter example is a good one. A dog will come to almost anything as long as it's said with a touch of love... (and a bone) LOL

I agree with the above thread. We always seem to have so many nick names for our dogs, I am sure it will work out fine.:)

At that age, the dog may already be used to Bouncer and could be confused or not respond to a new name. Could you change it to something similar in sound to Bouncer?? My dogs both have about 5 names - their real name and then a bunch of nicknames!! They respond to most of them!
